We’re excited to introduce %alphabet’s beta project— a market making function with real money on Urbit. Users can now make markets with anyone, in a sovereign manner.
Install %alphabet on the network from ~midbet-dopdev.
Intranets for communities will become the only effective way to harbor information and communication in the coming years. And it will be valuable! @urbit
I’m also a big fan of the theory that the internet as we know it is breaking down
Many of my bookmarked websites from 10 years ago don’t even exist anymore. Many blogs. Taken down.
Google search has deteriorated beyond use. Can’t find shit.
@Polymarket@perplexity_ai We are going to do this for private communities; where everything in a community can be paired with a market, from governance, to sentiment, to simply having fun with custom questions (which could would be AI generated!).
This is huge. Would love to get Google out. The more markets end up interfacing with user-facing technology, the more the truth is revealed; or at least, the less obfuscated megacorp's stranglehold on information and public perception becomes. Good job! @Polymarket@perplexity_ai
We're thrilled to announce our partnership with @Polymarket. Now, when you search for events on Perplexity, you'll see news summaries paired with real-time probability predictions, such as election outcomes, market trends, and beyond.
On-chain data and attested consensus can be valuable no matter the scale or granularity. This is one of our first instincts at %alphabet, especially regarding the oracle problem. Also great usecases for @urbit's vision of serving as a schelling point for communities!
Is anyone building a prediction market for purely on-chain data?
Will the balance of smart contract go down by 90% within a period of 1000 blocks? Will an account be inactive for the next 1 million blocks? How many people will vote on that controversial DAO proposal? What will be the outcome? Confident some anon lost his multisig private key? Bet on his account nonce not changing for a year.
Who's building the Polymarket of on-chain data? No matter how exotic the data… The source of truth doesn't have to be a centralized party. Storage Proofs can provide the cryptographically guaranteed data integrity that is needed for this.
Think you can bring this vision to life? DM @HerodotusDev or me and maybe we can cook something up
The resolution of current 5th circuit litigation will (hopefully) fix this. Prediction markets as reliable sources of information have only become more and more important, and will continue to do so.
Senator Warren wants to ban prediction markets for political events, contracts that are hard to manipulate, in favor of political polls that are easy to manipulate. Got it.
@cjhtech@0xsyru@thisisrj Broadly, oracles resolve the markets, unless an insured oracle intaking curated on-chain data is taken to dispute; these can be run by anyone, and we plan to make a marketplace of on chain oracles.
Really cool! Congrats to both @NateSilver538 and @Polymarket for what's sure to be a great partnership.
Importantly, this is more evidence of prediction markets' fundamental assimilation and takeover of legacy media as reliable journalism, which @joeykrug specifically mentions.
.@Polymarket reportedly brings aboard elections prognosticator Nate Silver as the prediction market enjoys booming business from the U.S. presidential election.

Great discussion from @luanalopeslara of @Kalshi on the careful balance between market makers and the people getting actual value from contributing to hedging (or market making). Really inspiring, and wishing them good tidings in the 5th circuit! 😎
“Everyone without exception believes his own native customs, and the religion he was brought up in, to be the best.”
~Herodotus circa. 440 BCE
A great quote from @robinhanson on cultural drift— on economic activity and innovation growth (or lack thereof). Introspection!
@ManifoldMarkets Proposing the best common editorial spaces for market making— a great audience! And more on culture going on the main stage soon from @robinhanson. Manifest is great!
American citizens deserve a pneumatic flattening of the centralized federal government and a return of sovereignty to states, promoting long overdue panarchic hygiene, de-escalation and depolarization, an institutional underperformance refund, and — through free market competition and people voting with their car — a better governmental work product for our families.
This Thursday in SF, we're holding an extra special @urbit meetup/totally unofficial pre-party for the @ManifoldMarkets Manifest conference, featuring a special guest appearance and live demo from @alphabet_urbit

Cool stuff! We support @__vaporware__ and @sol_plunder-- particularly regarding the political and ideological mores espoused in this writeup. Urbit is our home, but the more people building toward sovereign personal computing, the better.
