Action you can take re: return-to-office directive: CAPE has put together this template letter you can use to send to your MP from your personal email address to express your concerns regarding the recent back-to-office mandate. https://t.co/NlZaqrSM8V #CanLab
People wielding great power & responsibility walk the corridors of #COP27.
When I walk the same corridors, what I see is a space of smoke and mirrors.
Today I asked leaders to be real & accountable.
Smoke and mirrors betray the people at the frontline of the climate crisis.
@mhellstern@Anna_Wong10@firebethfox Thanks for the message Meghan, I will connect via DM :) and thanks for the share of the link, I was not aware of that process.

@tallardyceCA@CelesteCote A bit of a different angle, curious do you have best practices for accessibility of data visualizations and reporting? Another major challenge for us moving forward. #accessibility#dataViz#data
Can we all take a moment to recognize @plpilon’s incredible courage for talking openly about the elephant in the room—the human cost of accelerated transformation—and helping others to do the same?
This will save lives and careers.

@jc5008@remoteli_io Very good point Jocelyn; To the event's credit, they used 'return to workplace'. Unfortunately I ran out of characters and was editing it to be short + pull up with the hashtag that has been surfacing. But I absolutely agree, it creates a negative connotation. Thank you for this.
Attended an event - How to help ees #ReturnToWork without too much stress - with 700+ #GC MGs.
It was really upsetting.
The talk was biased towards in-office work, included many negative stereotypes about remote workers, didn’t present research on human/equity benefits of #WFH.
One fundamental mistake software design teams make is behaving like they are the main character in their user's life story, and not the other way around.
Design as if your user
-didn't want to use your product or develop expertise
-hasn't thought about your product for months
I know I frequently talk about sacrifice and an ethical dedication to working in the public service but let me be clear: requiring any in-office work is a hard no for me. There will be a massive talent exodus from the IT side of the public service if this happens.
@dr_abela Sadly, you were right! I was hopeful for a rich discussion focusing on how to support employee well-being from wherever they choose to work from, but instead heard about how one should check in on remote workers’ deep work, mentioning nothing of presentism in-person!
@hearthgirlnl There was certainly data - it was meant to be about the science of stress, yet it seemed conveniently curated to amplify an already established point of view. There was also lots of storytelling, that conveniently skewed in a particular direction.
@afhill From what I know, the telework agreements usually say it is at discretion of your manager and can be revoked at any time due to organizational need :( unfortunately, it treats telework as a privilege that you as an employee have no control over.
An open letter to the Government of Canada supporting flexible remote-work options. 8930 signatures.
I've worked remotely for government since 2014, not being co-located with my team most of the time (thread).
@afhill I think part of me is also feeling the frustration of 'mights' and lack of clear accountability. Who is making these decisions? Is this based on a policy or an interpretation of a policy? What do we need to work on influencing, individuals, organizations or broad policies?
