Colossal, a company focused on bringing back dire wolfs and mammoths from extinction, are in talks to raise new financing at a $20 to $30 Billion valuation.
Anything seems possible these days in the Wild West of private markets. Maybe Fitch will become a captive subsidiary of a captive offshore reinsurance company owned by a domestic insurance company owned by a private credit company owned by a private equity company. Leveraged.
1 in 5 NYC public school students are Black, but at Stuy - our most prestigious high school - 3 of ~800 incoming Freshmen are Black.
We urgently need state legislation to modify the admissions process. A single test should never be only factor deciding who gets in & who doesn’t.

Semafor: "Four of the five fastest-rising cities in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s ranking of the world’s most livable cities were in China, led by Fuzhou — a 9-million-person city in the country’s southeast — which climbed seven spots up the ranking."

The Economist: “Brazilians are going gaga for Chinese brands…Affluent Brazilians drive cars made by BYD, use phones made by Huawei, watch televisions produced by Hisense, order meals with 99Food, a delivery app, and shop online at Shopee.”

China is now training trillion parameter models on domestic hardware. Meituan’s new 1.6T-parameter LongCat model was reportedly trained on around 50,000 Huawei Ascend chips.
China is adapting to export controls by redesigning the entire AI stack. Rather than matching Nvidia chip-for-chip, Chinese companies are leaning into system architecture, networking, and software optimizations to offset hardware constraints.
This hardware-software co-design is increasingly becoming China’s competitive strategy. This piece is a very accessible primer on what's happening:
中昊芯英 unveils next gen TPU AI chip as part of 泰则 2.0 compute cluster that will have 896 TFLOPS compute per chip (1792 TOPS INT8). Each chip uses just 600W of power.
In a 8 TPU + 2 CPU setup, box will have 7.168 PFLOPS of compute. Natively supports PyTorch, vLLM, SGLang & other tools.
Completed integration w/ Qwen, DeepSeek, GLM & Minimax.
Company uses Chiplet + 2.5D packaging & connected in a cluster via optical modules & w/ OCS.
Founder/CEO 杨龚轶凡 was a core member of Google TPU design team for v2/3/4.
This does feel like the Chinese Google TPU.
This is huge news for China’s AI ecosystem.
Meituan just released a 1.6-trillion parameter AI model trained entirely on Chinese AI chips. They’ve been working on using Chinese AI chips since 2023.
The damage Dario and Anthropic have done to the American AI industry is just unbelievable.
Wait until other companies catch up with Nvidia on the hardware side.
Add to that the number of people who, like me, were paying for top tier plans and relying on their models, and are now building local infrastructure to run open source models instead.
YMTC has been hugely underestimated. Here is Kimi accumulating last 5 years of quarterly global NAND market size. 2026Q1 was $46. At 13% share, YMTC would've generated $6B in revenue. Q2 was a huge jump over Q1 based on Micron report.
As YMTC marches toward 500k wpm, it will likely reach 25% of global NAND flash market revenue in a few yrs. Unlike CXMT, it actually leads the industry in high speed 3D NAND tech & also getting into 3D DRAM.
Even if supply crunch dies down a little bit & NAND global mkt reverts to 2021 or 2024 levels ($65B), YMTC could make $15 to 20B per year (assuming some level of DRAM income) in a few years. But if NAND settles into a $40+ B per quarter market, then YMTC could make upward of $50B per year w/ $40B profit.
Using P/E ratio of 15:1, that's a $600B company.
