I'm confused as to what's happening on Feb 4 in #SriLanka. Is it:
1. a Fake celebration of a Real independence,
2. a Real celebration of a Fake independence or
3. a Fake celebration of a Fake independence?

Govt approved a transport policy in 2009. After 13 yrs, 3% is fulfilled, 11% partially fulfilled and 86% unmoved. Not for lack of trying. Neither politicians nor the people believe in policy led governance or leadership. It's relying on fancy projects w/o policies that stumps us

@RW_UNP If you do @RW_UNP it will be the first time since DSS that a leader will make us richer not poorer. The last one we had, reduced by half our net global wealth. Our land, our bank balances and in fact all of our country is now on sale for half price.

SOEs in SL have no institutional strategy. Governments only appoint tacticians who can protect their interest. The law on appointments should change where privatisation is not desirable.But will they? I think they'd prefer to privatise for kickbacks or as gifts to their cronies.

SoE reforms is a must. But reforming those that deformed them is a prerequisite. Making SoEs financially independent and appointing the best leaders is all what it takes. Say no to reforms without reforming government itself. Its bad governance that ruined the economy not -SoEs

SOEs have become a microcosm of government where the strategy is to consolidate and abuse the position and power for personal gain. Like government, they have ceased to serve the common good. In SL when ministers change, so do the Secretary, SOE chairs, boards & even below.
