I’m so happy to see grassroots Bitcoin adoption continuing to take root and progressing so well through projects like @Bitcoinchama 🧡
So far the path towards lasting adoption by making Bitcoin content understandable in native language and leveraging available tech and community based approaches seems to be progressing quite well.
I was skeptical about referral-based outreach at first, but after giving it a real shot over the past three years, the results have been incredible. The number of people you’re able to reach in the country in a short period continues to grow by the day.
As for now, the focus is on getting Bitcoin into people’s hands and encouraging them to transact with it in their daily lives. That means building ecosystems where merchants accept Bitcoin, an area where we still have a long way to go, but one that’s essential for meaningful adoption.
For anyone looking to reach communities in Africa, this is a strategy worth exploring.
Territorial justice is the reclamation of access to and stewardship and decision-making over ancestral lands, waters, and resources for #indigenouspeoples. Colonization has stolen and decimated #indigenous territory, displacing communities and devastating #ecologies and #biodiversity. 🌿
📢 Today, colonization takes the form of rapidly expanding unsustainable—and often illegal—extractive industries and industrial #agriculture. For communities, being forced off their lands is more than a material loss. It is an erasure of lifeways that steward the environment, and spells disastrous consequences for #nature.
💚 We work towards territorial justice by empowering communities to advocate for and uphold their #landrights. 🗺

Back in March, Maya Parbhoe @MayaPar25 shared with us the beauty of her country, Suriname, and we had the privilege to visit an indigenous village in the Amazon rainforest thanks to ACT 🙏🏽 @AmazonTeamOrg#prachtig
The @amazoniabitcoin project has been set up to make a difference out there.
Turning to a #bitcoin standard with Maya as president, Suriname could lead in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) #esg #suriname
E for Environmental Impact
As one of the most forested countries in the world, Suriname's rainforest is a critical carbon sink and supports immense biodiversity.
Moreover, Suriname has relatively low deforestation rates compared to other tropical countries, contributing positively to its environmental credentials.
S for Social
Suriname has indigenous and Maroon communities with rights to large areas of forest land, and their traditional practices often align with conservation goals.
G for Governance Challenges
Despite its environmental strengths, Suriname faces governance challenges, including political stability and economic development issues.
@robustus It’s in our plan for the Amazon, and why we went there some weeks ago. If turbines + Bitcoin can bring more independence to the indigenous people living there, that would be a win.

When we received our first payout yesterday, we discovered 10 donations for a total of 40,115 sats 🙏
These are the things that motivate us ❤️ to do something useful with Bitcoin. We will HODL them through the bull run and their fiat value will rise, allowing for more opportunities in the future. Bitcoin funds will be a power for non-profit organizations.
We love you 🫶 thanks for your support.
You can find the donation LNURL in the thread below.
We will keep reporting in full transparency.
When we were asked to help @amazoniabitcoin to facilitate #bitcoin donations it was a no brainer. Follow them and give then a shoutout as they just have started their mission to support the Amazon Rainforest and its Guardians. And don't forget to donate below.
Thanks to @LNCheckout we now have an LNURL and a Lightning Address [email protected] to accept micro-donations for the fund.
If you like our idea of bringing #bitcoin to the indigenous people in the Amazon rainforst to give them more independence, then let us know by sending some sats ⚡️ to get the initiative up and running.
Or click the Share 🔁 button to reach more people.
Currently the people living in the Amazon use small pieces of gold and cash to trade. Bitcoin can help them a lot. For instance, they will be able to buy and sell goods from a distance while they can't do that now and have to make long and expensive travels to the city. Nor can they be cheated with fake gold anymore.
These people are the guardians of the forest, and chances to maintain the Amazon are bigger if they can continue to live there.
We will collaborate with organizations like @AmazonTeamOrg who took us deep into the Amazon in Suriname last week. 🙏

During an amazing trip in the Amazon last week, we discussed how #bitcoin can contribute in different ways to improve the lives of indigenous people who are the guardians of the rainforest.
Interessant.
Check out this compelling video detailing the process of gold extraction ⬇️
The issue of illegal gold mining still persists in Suriname. Towards the end of November 2023, a tragic shaft collapse resulted in multiple fatalities. Furthermore, mercury pollution continues to harm both the rainforest trees 😔 and the livelihoods of local communities.
Through our new initiative, Amazonia Bitcoin, we want to bring change for people living out there.
Wie een klein overzicht wil van wat er zoal nodig is om goud uit de grond te halen. Kan dit stukje bekijken.

"Cyanide, hip hoi."
Electricity is the greatest requirement for making progress. Getting that deep in the Amazon forest is a big challenge. Once you can generate electricity, a lot of possibilities open up.
Donations will be kept 100% in Bitcoin using on-chain, Lightning and Liquid. For a wider reach, we will also accept USDt and USDc on various chains, but these will always be converted and kept in BTC.
Because we believe that non-profits moving to a Bitcoin standard will be way more powerful in the future and be able to bring real change.
In fundraising, many small gifts make up a big difference.
And that is exactly what sats are about. They allow for very small donations to grow in value over time.
Every non-profit needs to save in sats.
