A sneak peek into the tagging process for my PhD project using this recent, record-sized muskie!
For this fish, I used a V16AT accelerometer tag which features a temperature sensor from @Innovasea 🐟💨🌡️
Thanks to @BowmanJacob_ for capturing this time-lapse!
Two years ago, @ErinRitchiee rocked up to Trent to start her MSc with @sci_angler and me. Yesterday, Erin defended her MSc. Extensive experiments calibrating accelerometer tag output against swimming speed and oxygen consumption across temps in walleye. Congrats Erin!
Our 1st (hopefully annual) lab writing(+reading/analysis) retreat on Lake Kushog going well this week. As you can here, we are fun and happy people. Sadly missing out this week are @ErinRitchiee and @HeatherBReid.
This week (during the local heatwave), I assisted @amberlfedus in tagging walley, perch, smallmouth bass and black crappie with @Innovasea tags for acceleration and movement tracking. Below are images/clips of incision sutures, set up and fin clippings for stable isotope sampling
PhD student @HeatherBReid putting an @Innovasea V7 transmitter into a black crappie for @amberlfedus's fish tracking project on Stoney Lake with help from UG students @BowmanJacob_ and Sam Chasse. Tags purchased with generous donations from lake residents.
Humbling and exciting to see all this scribbled onto a whiteboard by @erinmcstewart at our lab meeting today, mapping out what's going to be a crazy few months of data collection for our team, with the help of many collaborators. A few details to iron out but we're getting there.
Great talk to start the day by my lab mate @ChrisOnFish providing an update on our @LampreyControl funded projects at the @GLATOS_Fish Coordination Meeting! Can’t think of a better speaker to represent #RabyLab across borders 🐟📊🗯️ #GLATOS@TrentUResearch
I enjoyed presenting some of my MSc work about the effects of macrophyte cutting on fish populations @scas_scsa yesterday! Thank you to everyone who stuck around to listen. #SCAS_SCSA2023
Just completed the 5h drive home from Montreal and the first @scas_scsa meeting. Obligatory lab photo with my wonderful students who did such a great job representing @TrentUniversity and themselves. Thanks again to all the folks who put the meeting together.
Thanks to all the @TrentUniversity students for stopping by the @cdnsciencepub booth—including new @scas_scsa student rep @erinmcstewart! Learn more about all their research on thermal tolerance and fish movement at https://t.co/JHILTsPXBL
Interested in walleye bio-loggers, or brook trout embryo survival & thermal tolerance ? Are you concerned with how the loss of vegetation is impacting fish species, or maybe interested in how O2 supersaturation impacts thermal tolerance ? Check out some amazing talks @scas_scsa
