I just became the first U.S. Secretary of Education to call on President Biden to unilaterally cancel student loan debt. Can I count on you to retweet and help me hit 35k followers so we can spread the word?
What do you call a system in which 41 Republican Senators, representing just 21% of the population, can stop voting rights legislation backed by 70% of Americans?
How about “broken”?
When you lose an election, you’re supposed to try to win over more voters.
Instead, Republicans are trying to stop people from voting.
That tears at the very fabric of our democracy.
And that's why the Senate will move forward on critical voting rights legislation.
Democracy is under threat. Fascism is rising. Time is running out. It's time for the President to get off the sidelines and into the game, or we're all going to lose. /end
@ellenmtinder There is currently too much of a delusion that forgiving student loans would somehow only benefit those who went to Ivy League schools and such. Even forgiving something like $10k and dropping the interest to fractions of a percent would be life changing for many.
Together, we are going to build an economy that rewards work—not just wealth. An economy that works for the backbone of this country: the people who get up every single day to work hard to provide for their families, who are just looking for a little bit of breathing room.
You forgot to mention that gas prices are the same now as they were in June 2018. Or that this time last year unemployment was 11.1% -- today it’s 5.8%.
@POTUS agrees families shouldn’t pay more at the pump – that’s why he’s opposed to GOP proposals to raise the gas tax.
We've done the polling — and it shows that Rick Scott is wrong (as usual).
Our poll with @MorePerfectUS shows that 6 in 10 voters support the For the People Act, including a majority of Independents. https://t.co/AYJOJX4mOw
Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed 8 days before the election, after 65 million Americans voted.
293 days before the 2016 election, Garland couldn't even get a hearing.
And now McConnell's saying he'll block Biden from filling a vacancy in 2024.
Tells you all you need to know.
Student loan debt is holding back tens of millions of people across this country who can’t buy homes, buy cars, or start small businesses. President Biden needs to #CancelStudentDebt not only for those people individually but also for our whole economy.
Let’s also talk about how as an adult you might need braces for much more than a cosmetic reason and that should be covered by medical/dental insurance.
Hard to overstate how important it is that the infrastructure bill address climate as ambitiously as possible. We may not get another opportunity and time is not exactly on our side
I know they each have their own inflexible rationales, but the combination of Breyer not retiring, the filibuster prevailing over democracy reform, and 'bipartisan' negotiations stripping out core Democratic priorities all point to a failure to see clearly the danger to democracy
There should be an upper age limit on running for Congress. Why do we have multiple 80+ year olds in office? The last 30yrs has been a rocket of progress and most of them are very out of touch. There should also be an income upper limit for the same reason.
