@dvassallo model leap frogs make it necessary to switch and switch back again
the upshot is there are really only two products and it’s quite useful to have them review each others work anyway
@jevidon yes but also some set of people will pay a for a product because they’ve outsourced the effort to discovery to discover new products to ad networks and the effort to vet to paying a premium
I don’t believe at all that current AI models are conscious and I don’t really worry about it, but when you flat out dismiss the possibility of them ever being conscious it just seems like a massive failure of imagination to me.
i’m sympathetic with at least the best of your neverthelesspains. you are smart well read good at arguing. you’re careful to make specific claims you can back up. in general the work you do here is impressive and useful to us all. but do get a sense your talent and effort can work against you sometimes and you get myopic. ie the facts were only required to support some overstated version of the claim and you won on TKO, the spirit of their claim is intact and unengaged. i’m sure most of the people you encounter are just plain wrong. but multiple times have felt this

I forget if I've written up my college sumptuary law proposal, which is: banning schools from providing students with an on-campus standard of living higher than what the median graduate of that school can afford in their first year after finishing.
the vast majority of price discrimination subsidizes lower cost options
some pay 3x the price for a first class ticket, 1.5x for 6 inches of legroom,
and the back of the plane gets filled at what would otherwise be a loss if all seats were sold that price
same with college, health insurance, movies, restaurants, and any store that’s had a sale
@patio11 i played competitive sports into college and when training i would often think of Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli running across the plains of Rohan chasing the Uruk-hai to save Merry and Pippin
always got me into the right headspace
TUIs are not good sorry yall
a CLI is a utility, and situational. this should not be confused with stuffing a full interactive GUI into a low capability platform.
