Howrah Division’s Green Initiative: Together Towards a Cleaner Future 🌿

Howrah Division has taken a major step toward reducing plastic waste and promoting environmental sustainability. In our continued efforts to minimise carbon footprint and ensure responsible waste management, PET bottles collected from Howrah station premises have been processed using a newly installed high-capacity baling machine.

✔️ Record 9 tonnes of PET bottle bales generated — the highest ever auctioned at one time in Indian Railways
✔️ Auctioned to authorised plastic recyclers, ensuring safe and responsible reuse
✔️ Significant contribution toward reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment

This initiative reflects our commitment to a cleaner, greener tomorrow while advancing sustainable practices across Indian Railways.

In line with the nationwide Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign, the Personnel Branch, Howrah Division organised a Swachh Bharat Cultural Fest on 27th September 2025 (Saturday) to spread awareness on cleanliness and hygiene.

📌 Highlights of the Fest

1️⃣ Competitions on Swachh Bharat Mission
Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bamangachi and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bandel (BDC) enthusiastically participated in drawing, essay writing, and speech competitions on themes of cleanliness, waste management, and environmental awareness. ✍️🎨🎤

2) “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath.” 🇮🇳

As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, a cleanliness drive was held today at Howrah station old complex and surroundings. The Additional Member (Mechanical), Railway Board; General Manager, Eastern Railway, PHOD's, Divisional Railway Manager along with divisional officers actively encouraged railway users, showing their commitment to keeping the area clean.

During the drive, railway users were counselled on the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public areas.

Emphasis was laid on:
✔️ Keeping the surrounding areas clean
✔️ Using dustbins for waste disposal
❌ Refraining from spitting in public places

The campaign reflects Indian Railways’ firm commitment to support the vision of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and to encourage responsible behavior among passengers.
