@DaveEvansPhD What I mean by this is that I believe what differentiates the economist is the critical thinking associated with the modern statistical and coding tools
@DaveEvansPhD One of my professors in undergrad defined the role of the economist as “understanding the world” - i love this nowadays. We get to think critically about several issues and use appropriate tools to answer questions at hand that help us understand our world in a narrower sense

Help a new department chair out!
One of our wonderful visiting faculty got a TT offer late in the game (now). This is great for him! But a real pickle for me. I need to find someone to cover his courses this fall 🚨
Do you know anyone who could do this? Details below. (1/3)

I'm hiring a personal postdoc starting in fall. Does it pay a ton? No. But you only teach if you want, you can do research with any of my centers, have amazing data access to super expensive and rare data, and I'll make sure you can get to any conferences. 1/3
Most department seminar series are budget constrained. But presenting work in other departments is a crucial way for speakers to get feedback on their work and disseminate their ideas, and for everyone (speakers and the audience) to broaden their networks. This is most important for junior scholars.
If you’d like to invite junior scholars to present causal work related to crime or CJ policy, but need funding to do it, get in touch! We can provide funding for this (just as we do for conferences).
I am excited to share that my paper, co-authored by Amanda Ross and @amirneto , "Do businesses “vote with their feet” Too? Examining firm mobility in response to hurricane risk" has been published.

I don't say this lightly - but the floods in Porto Alegre, Brazil, are looking comparable to what Katrina did to New Orleans in 2005 -- massive evacuations, water & power outages, key infrastructure damaged, parts of city unlivable, possible long-term consequences
We use a #network analysis of Brazilian #inputoutput matrices b/w 1995–2011 to evaluate the impacts of #macroeconomic shocks on its production structure. Our results provide insights on how macroeconomic exogenous shocks and policies propagates through the production structure.
