כחודשיים אחרי הטבח קיבלתי טלפון מאחד, עומר עינב. ד״ר. הציע שאכתוב ספר על ניר עוז בעקבות הכתבה שפרסמתי על בני הקבוצה שלי. עשיתי מה שאני תמיד עושה בסיטואציות כאלו ושלחתי אותו לאחותי הקטנה והחכמה ממני בתקווה שתעשה את המתבקש ותגיד: ״לא״.
מה שלא לקחתי בחשבון הוא שש��י הדוקטורים מכירים ואחותי תגיד ״כן״, פשוט כי ״לא נעים״ (כי ככה זה, גם אם עזבת את הקיבוץ לפני שנים, עדיין ״לא נעים״ זה הכוח הכי חזק ביקום שלך).
אז יצאנו למסע לנסות לפצח איך כותבים כאב, איך מתעדים פצע, איך הופכים את ההווה להיסטוריה.
מאחר והכל עדיין היה טרי בחרנו להיפגש עם קבוצת הייחוס שלנו, בני הקיבוץ. במשך חודשים ישבנו עם מי שגדלו בניר עוז לפני שנולדנו ומי שגדלו בו שנים רבות אחרי שעזבנו ודרך הסיפור האישי של כל אחד ואחת ונרקם הסיפור של הבית שלנו: ניר עוז.
סיפור של מקום חי וגם לפעמים מורכב. סיפור של קיבוץ שאיש לא ידע היכן הוא ושלא בטובת יושביו הפך למוקד אסון ב7/10.
לאורך החודשים הארוכים של העבודה על הספר לא תיארנו לעצמנו שכאשר ירד לדפוס במרץ 2025 עדיין יהיו ברצועת עזה 59 חטופים המוחזקים כבני ערובה - בהם 14 מחברינו ומהאנשים שגידלו אותנו. לא עלה על דעתנו שהפצע ימשיך לדמם כל כך הרבה זמן ובכלל לא נתפנה להתאבל ולעכל.
ולמרות שהסיפור ממש לא תם, מהשבוע ״אני מניר עוז״ בחנויות הספרים וזאת הזדמנות לומר תודה פומבית לכל מי שהיה, תמך והביא לכך שהספר אכן ראה אור ובעיקר לכל המרואיינים שנתנו בנו אמון, דיברו איתנו ואיפשרו לנו להביא את סיפורם והסיפור של כולנו.

בשעה זו מתקיימת הפגנה פרו פלסטינית ענקית בשדרת Paseo del prado במדריד. להלן כמה תובנות:
1. המון אנשים. יותר מהפגנות אוקטובר
2. מחאה שקטה יחסית ולא אלימה. הרבה ספרדים בוגרים, מעט מאוד צעירים עם חזות איסלמית.
3. ישראל וארה"ב באותה סירה. המחאה מרוכזת בישראל אבל ארהב נתפסת כשותפה.

4. נוכחות פוליטית מאוד מופגת של השמאל הספרדי. דגלים של פודמוס ו-PSOE. המחאה נגד ישראל וארה"ב היא לחלק מהפוליטיקה המקומית. השמאל נגד ישראל, הימין והשמרנים בעד או לפחות לא נגד.
5. חמאס כלל לא מוזכר. אין דגלים, אין קריאות בעדו.
6. אין קריאות להשמדת ישראל, או שלטים 'מהנהר עד הירדן'.

On this day in 1949, following the conclusion of Israel's War of Independence, the UN General Assembly voted to establish the United Nations Relief and Works Agency — @UNRWA.

Over time, by refusing to resettle Palestinian refugees, even in the countries they now inhabited such as Lebanon, the world sent them a message: the war is not over, you can still destroy Israel.

Today, 74 years later, Israel has still not been defeated, and Palestinians are paying the price of the lie they were fed.

Palestinians are the only population in the world not eligible for services by UNHCR, the UN refugee agency (@Refugees), which has a mandate to resettle refugees.

Instead, @UNRWA holds generation after generation of patrilineal descendants trapped in permanent "refugee camps," denied integration in the Arab countries they were born in and denied resettlement elsewhere.

Keeping Palestinians in refugee camps does nothing to help them. They are being used as pawns in the unending war to undo Israel's creation.

Shockingly though, UNRWA's budget is not funded by Israel's enemies. It is funded by Western governments.

Let's imagine for a moment that UNRWA teachers weren't teaching students to support terror and hate Jews.

Let's imagine that UNRWA schools weren't being used to store rockets.

Let's imagine that UNRWA teachers weren't holding hostages.

Even in that world, it would be a moral imperative for donor countries to stop funding the system of delusion that UNRWA's founding has created for Palestinians, whereby they live for generations on Israel's doorstep, waiting for its destruction.

Donor countries must find alternative organizations through which to deliver humanitarian aid to Gazans.

They must also create a system that aids voluntary resettlement for those Palestinians who decide to finally accept the truth:

The war has ended, Israel is there to stay.

And it is time for UNRWA to go.

Since October 7, I have experienced a significant shift in my political beliefs towards the right. I am not alone. This is happening to most Jewish friends who are horrified by the call from the left that goes “from the river to the sea” asking for the end of the state of Israel.

In the past, I was a donor to the Democratic Party and served on the board of the Clinton Foundation. October 7th marked a turning point, profoundly altering my political worldview and leaving the party.

The impact was twofold: on one hand, the realization of the horrific massacre of Hamas and the kidnappings and burning of babies, and systematic rapes, all wildly celebrated in Gaza. Seeing so vividly that what Hamas wants is to kill all Jews was horrifying enough but to then see such support for Hamas from the American left all chanting, "from the River to the Sea" was the end of my relationship with, the so called, "progressives".

Previously, I held an idealistic view of the left. Now, that view has drastically changed, adapting to a darker reality. I see the alliance between certain progressive factions, such as those represented by Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, as a threat to Israel, to Jews and to democracy in the United States. The so-called "woke" culture, by sympathizing with Hamas, has become the enemy in my eyes. Conservative culture, in supporting the democracy of Israel, has become a new ally.

I find it deeply troubling when figures like Tlaib and Omar express intentions to recognize Palestine without fully addressing the atrocities committed by Hamas. This, to me, seems like a reward to terror, a slap in the face to democratic ideals, to the Jewish people, and to all Americans who stand against rewarding terrorism.

Jews were 10 million in Europe in 1939, now only 1 million remain. But just as Germany went from being Nazi to being a great defender of democracy, the right wing in the United States has transformed from having a history of denying rights to now being a leading force in the fight for individual freedom and the defense of the individual. The left instead, which once fought for democracy, now supports causes that attack individual freedom, Judaism and Israel.

The world has changed. October 7 was a wake-up call for me.
