In a letter to the editor Amourie Prentice et al. demonstrate efficacy of 1Hz rTMS directed to the Orbitofrontal cortex in depressed participants that initially did not respond to standard DLPFC stimulation

Augmenting TMS response in MDD: We know DLPFC-TMS works, and for non-responders that OFC-TMS adds some 20+% remissions, so what if we combine these two protocols? Large sample shows no advantage. Maybe it is about specificity of TMS?
Congrats @AmouriePrentice and @NikitaVinne with this work, and great collaboration with @JonathanDownar

Effectiveness of OFC-TMS in patients unresponsive to DLPFC TMS, just published in @brainstimj .
Not all depressed patients respond to standard DLPFC TMS, and given their resistance to treatments alternatives are needed. Here we show in two independent samples from @neurocaregroup in Nijmegen and New York that patients unresponsive to DLPFC TMS can still remit to OFC TMS (Remission: 24-31%).
Congrats @AmouriePrentice as first author, and @NikitaVinne@YlkaKolken@JonathanDownar@Sack_BSClab Christina, Joris, Richard, Iris & Vera.

Glad to see this published:
rACC theta has often been implicated as a predictor for antidepressant response. Here we show that rACC theta scales with level of treatment resistance from first-line treatments to TRD treatments such as TMS and ECT.
Next question to solve is: Cause or effect, i.e. is high rACC theta a biomarker for resistance to first line treatments, or does repeated exposure to antidepressant treatments cause this increased rACC theta?
Congrats @AmouriePrentice with first-first author publicaton!
Also thanks to great team of collaborators and sharing data: @ARitaBarreiros, @NikitaVinne, Sven Stuiver, @hanvdij, Jeroen van Waarde, @DrMKorgaonkar, @AlexanderSack72

Looking for a research assistant. Send your CV to [email protected].
Only apply if you'd like to be happy and successful. Position is not great for people who don't want those things.
Also nice if you either (a) write code, or (b) want to grow into a lab manager.
Just published: A polygenic-informed approach to a predictive EEG signature empowers antidepressant treatment prediction.
Great new paper, congrats to Hannah Meijs.

Thoroughly enjoyed participating in the @Brainclinics#ResearchDay last week! Learned so many new things, and was inspired by all the efforts of the people involved to translate tough #BrainStimulation science to direct clinical applications.
