It was powerful to hear @SectoCabinet_KE, Secretary to the Cabinet, address the intersection of FGM and disability. She highlighted the devastating impact of FGM on women and girls, noting, “FGM not only violates human rights but also impacts persons with disabilities in profound ways.” The Government of Kenya’s continued commitment to ending all forms of violence, especially FGM, is crucial to ensuring survivors, including those with disabilities, receive the care and support they deserve.

Community health workers play a crucial role in raising awareness about #AMR and promoting responsible use of antibiotics.
As 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬, you need to:
✅Educate patients on the risks of AMR, emphasising the importance of taking antibiotics only when prescribed and completing antibiotic courses.
✅Promote infection prevention by promoting good practices in personal and home hygiene, use of safe drinking water, cooking food properly and safe food storage.
✅Advocate for recommended vaccinations.
✅Conduct regular surveillance and report any disease patterns within your community.

#Amref is strengthening South Sudan's ability to combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) through technical assistance on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and health workforce protection. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, @WHO and @UNFAO, we are taking impactful steps including:
☑️ Validating the National AMR Plan.
☑️ Enhancing AMR Surveillance by developing surveillance tools, data systems and diagnostic pathways.
☑️ Developing laboratory protocols for effective antimicrobial testing.

To close out #WorldAMRAwarenessWeek, let's shine a light on the sheer scale of this crisis. 🦠
Without urgent action, AMR will account for three deaths every minute between 2025 and 2050.
But what does action look like? Here are 3⃣ steps you can take to stem the tide:
Nothing for us, without us! Community Health Promoters are the first line of response to community health needs in Kenya and they must be at the heart of efforts to tackle #AMR. #WAAW2024
Governments and other stakeholders need to realise the power of youth participation on #AMR at every level from agenda-setting to implementation. That's how knowledge of local solutions can be scaled up through partnership - says Vivian Nabasere @official_famsa#WAAW2024
Sharing antibiotics is one of the ways in which people are increasing the risk of AMR in their communities. But the system is set up to drive this behaviour. We need robust public health messaging for #AMR education, awareness and action. @daktari1@Amref_Worldwide#WAAW2024
African nations are at a crossroads, facing unsustainable #debt burdens, high climate adaptation and development needs. #ClimateChange grants cannot be the only step.
We must do more, say @DestaLakew@atofler

Over 60% of the African population are young people aged under 25. Overlooking them in conversations about #AMR - or indeed, anything - means overlooking the majority. Hear more from Vivian Nabasere, @official_famsa on young people and sustainable solutions for AMR. #WAAW2024
A focus on emission reductions fails to address the most pressing health needs of African communities. The immediate threat of climate change is not their carbon footprint but their vulnerability to its effects.

It’s World AMR Awareness Week!
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) happens when disease-causing microorganisms evolve and no longer respond to medicines, making infections harder or impossible to treat. These microorganisms include viruses, fungi, bacteria and parasites that can cause diseases such as HIV, pneumonia, tuberculosis and malaria among others.
According to @WHO, AMR is directly responsible for 1.27 million deaths and contributed to 5 million deaths in 2019 due to resistant infections.
This week we will raise awareness, discuss best practices, and engage the public, on various subjects relating to #AMR. #AntimicrobialResistance #WAAW

🌍 Climate change profoundly affects African communities, threatening their survival and resilience. While global focus is on carbon emissions, the real battle here is about saving lives through adaptation: providing clean water, protecting against climate-related diseases, and ensuring food security amid unpredictable weather. We must prioritize locally-led solutions and invest in resilience strategies. Every life saved is a victory, paving the way for a safer, healthier future for Africa. #ClimateAdaptation #AmrefAtCOP29 #ClimateActionNow #COP29Azerbaijan @AGNChairUNFCCC@UNFCCC@COP29_AZ@PACJA1@Afidep
