@aviralbhat Naive way to look at the reality. Nobody joins IAS in India for the salary. Lee Kuan Yew understood and made bureaucracy the first call for talented and incorruptible people at Singapore.
Most mammals are born with a "budget" of one billion heartbeats; the faster you spend them, the sooner the clock runs out.
Modern medicine lets humans cheat that limit, but a slow resting heart rate is still the ultimate biological insurance policy!
Sachin Tendulkar on his preparation for the Quarter Final against Australia in 2011.
I remember two things about getting ready for the quarter-final.
First, I did not eat non-vegetarian or spicy food after setting foot in Ahmedabad, which was boiling hot. I don't really know why not.
Something inside just seemed to suggest that I should stay away from that kind of food in the heat. I ate a lot of salad and yoghurt and things that I hoped would keep my system cool.
The other thing I remember is that I did not sleep well. This time it was not the mounting tension but my hotel bed that caused the problem.
On the eve of the match I even resorted to sleeping on the floor. It was our masseur Amit Shah who pointed out that the problem was with my bed.
When he came to give me a head massage to help me sleep, he immediately noticed that it was raised on one side, but unfortunately it was impossible to replace the bed at that late hour!
I was recently at my native place - a village 65 kms from Patna. Two things stood out:
1. Not a single pothole from airport to the village
2. Not one minute power cut during 72 hrs
Surreal, a hinterland Bihar delivers these things better than Pune and Mumbai
He took a state in total disrepair and gave it a sense of law and order. Made sushasan & vikas a central part of the Bihar political vocabulary, which was a massive shift from purely identity based politics then. He brought back the most basic human right: the ability to walk the streets at night without fear.
His first decade will always be a case study in how a single leader can break a cycle of lawlessness & reboot a state's identity.
He should hv retired and remembered as the architect of modern Bihar. Have the wisdom to leave while the room is still applauding.
Rajya Sabha is a big downgrade... GO AS A HERO, Nitish Kumar.
