Thank you @yvettecoopermp for joining a virtual visit to IRC programmes in Tawila, Darfur and speaking to clients and colleagues about the needs on the ground.
We appreciate @fcdogovuk's commitment to addressing the crisis in Sudan, and look forward to working with you.
Over 200,000 people are missing in Darfur.
El Fasher has 250,000 civilians. Despite reports of many fleeing the city to nearby Tawila, only a few thousand arrived. We now fear that they may be dead, trapped, or facing severe risks along the route.
The world cannot turn away.
.@WHO is appalled and deeply shocked by reports of the tragic killing of more than 460 patients and companions at Saudi Maternity Hospital in El Fasher, #Sudan, following recent attacks and the abduction of health workers.
Prior to this latest attack, WHO has verified 185 attacks on health care in Sudan with 1204 deaths and 416 injuries of health workers and patients since the start of the conflict in April 2023. Forty-nine of these attacks occurred this year alone, killing 966 people.
All attacks on health care MUST STOP immediately and unconditionally.
All patients, health personnel and health facilities must be protected under International Humanitarian Law.
Ceasefire!
With more than 30 million people in need, Sudan is facing the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. As the war enters its third year, Sudanese civilians can’t afford more inaction.
The world must act now. https://t.co/Fuu7w2xJDM

Thanks @DavidLammy for hosting the London Conference on Sudan — with a welcome focus on a political solution to the war; and substantive humanitarian pledges, which we hope will bring much needed resources to relief efforts inside Sudan and in refugee hosting countries.
We all need stories of hope and resilience during these dark times. Community kitchens have been a lifeline for hundreds of thousands of Sudanese over the past two years.
#Sudan: Two years of hope, and two years of facing challenges to secure meals for the community during a time of war. Despite the gunfire, abductions, communication blackouts, looting, and many other dangers, Sameer — a volunteer living in Khartoum — shares his story, the story of how their local response initiatives began, how they adapted, and how their lives changed overnight.

This week we mark 2 years of war in Sudan and the darkest hour for an ancient civilisation. It is one of the most harrowing crises of our generation, with the forced displacement of nearly 15 million people.
Armed men have for more than 700 days & nights attacked defenceless civilians with impunity. Civilians have not been protected, peace efforts have failed.
The widespread violence has caused the deepest humanitarian collapse in Sudan’s history and the suffering is exacerbated by severe US funding cuts on top of aid cuts also by several European donors.
Programmes that once provided vital support have been forced to shut down, leaving millions without the basic means to survive. Around 25 million people are facing devastating hunger.
Neighbouring countries hosting more than three million refugees and returnees, including Chad and South Sudan, now bear the weight of overflowing refugee populations while facing crises of their own.
For the sake of our shared humanity, the global community must reverse misguided funding shifts, and must recommit to protecting those in great need.
NEW: One of the world’s most trusted warning systems for detecting the outbreak of famine, FEWS NET, has shut down as a result of Trump’s freeze on all foreign aid, per two U.S. officials.

❗️Sudan is the biggest humanitarian crisis ever recorded 👇🏾

My heart goes out to the family members of the three WFP staff members who were killed in Sudan yesterday. Humanitarian workers and facilities should never be the targets of attack.
👉"Assistance must also be permitted not only to cross the border into Sudan, but to cross territory that is held by the two sides. Both parties have created obstacles, whether it’s bombs or bullets or bureaucracy.'' @SecBlinken https://t.co/q5aII2nj59
OUR WARNING: The international community must act urgently to protect Sudan’s civilians and ensure safe and unfettered aid delivery.
Atrocities are escalating across the country, with 11 million people now displaced. Read more: https://t.co/db3zr7mYy4
It's easy to type lies while you are in the office. I'm with my dad at the hospital and he can't get his dialysis session because the government has approved only 2375 shillings for the dialysis rather than 9,500. Stop!!!
A great editorial in the @washingtonpost looking at the geopolitics behind the conflict in Sudan, and how the Biden administration's position might not be in line with its own principles https://t.co/tKJzrjD7A3
"At this UN General Assembly, world leaders can't just talk the talk, they must take action and support proven solutions that will close the world's inequity gap."

The delegations in Geneva welcome the decision by the SAF to open the Adre border crossing - a critical step for saving lives and preventing the spread of famine and we look forward to seeing the first convoys cross in the coming days. We call on the RSF to take immediate steps to ensure that the aid groups entering through the Adre border are provided safety, unfettered humanitarian access, and operational independence from armed and political actors.
We all must take immediate steps to move humanitarian assistance into Darfur and across Sudan with safe and unhindered passage to the people in need, regardless of which party controls territory. The expansion of humanitarian assistance is a top priority for the members of the international community gathered in Switzerland. The facilitation of humanitarian access and civilian protection is consistent with the parties' commitments under the Jeddah declarations and obligations under international humanitarian law.
