My partner died this afternoon, just now.
She was responsible for improving, and saving, millions of lives because she was an absolute fucking pest. She made government better because she cared.
I am alone and do not know what to think.
Three women who dated Graham Platner, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Maine, told The New York Times they found his actions intimidating and disturbing, describing volatile relationships. https://t.co/ClaeKxVUEs
NORTHERN LIGHTS are possible tonight due to a possible geomagnetic storm!
This could lead to auroras being visible as far south as Kansas with a camera. If you live in Canada, your odds of seeing Northern Lights are increasing. Severe storms will increase cloud cover across the Northern Plains and Midwest tonight, so this could disrupt viewing.
@EbrightYon@WilliamBaude Depends on the writing sample.
Finished work product (notes and comments) definitely involve the assistance of others.
Bench and research memos usually don’t, but those aren’t usually shareable.
There’s a reason judges are increasingly relying on writing tests.
@elainemittleman@WilliamBaude The ability to come up with the right answer for the professor in 20 minutes on an exam is pretty useful signal for someone who will you have 20 minutes to come up with the right answer for the judge during trial.
"Jyn, my stardust, I have placed a weakness deep within the system. A flaw so small and powerful, they will never find it. I have made the Death Star non-compliant under OSHA 29 CFR 1926.502, incurring a cost of $16,550 per day for failure to abate violations."
@Dori_Duz@DavidLat@bloomberglaw@BLaw Do you think that person is likely to be the district judge when it comes to patent cases, ERISA, Bankruptcy Appeals, and countless other niche areas of the law?
There are no UFOs.
There’s no Catholic doctrine that says they must be, or even likely are likely to be, demons.
And even if UFOs are real, and they’re demons, FFS don’t go around call the being with death rays and hyperspace/inter-dimensional travel mean names.
Sex Scandal Report Highlights Judges’ Overdelegation To Clerks
My new @BloombergLaw/@BLaw column looks at an issue raised by the Judge Eleanor Ross scandal that's of greater systemic import to the judiciary than the sex and lies.

I was recently on "Status Check with @SpiveyConsult," a podcast mostly for those thinking about going to law school, talking about law professors. For those interested, the episode is here:

They’ve found that sperm whales have such complex language that its structurally comparable to Chinese. They use what are essentially vowels. They have different cultural identity markers for each clan of whales. Thats actually insane.
@langofmind Completely orthogonal, but there was a speaker often described as “who needs no introduction,” and so I took that to heart and introduced him as “Professor So-and-So, 7 time faculty racquetball champion.”
@lawprofblawg The authors were fairly open about the shortcomings (e.g., profs were given 3 minutes to answer off the top of their head; pairwise preference isn’t a measure of pedagogic quality).
It’s still super useful and interesting for what it showed and as an iterative block.
