Grinders and hustlers wonder what it’s all for.
Think origin over outcome:
Which is more important: to be successful, or to find meaning in your effort to be successful?
Answer this and find peace.
Best complement I ever received:
In 2007 I got so good at Halo 2 that other players online turned me in for “modding” which is cheating. I was not modding, I was just poning noobs.
@PeterDiamandis So by your logic, what does it mean that every conversation about American politics has gone straight to the subject of fascism for the past several years?
Like our time, people don’t realize how precious each drop of water is until the supply starts running low.
Then they get really smart about how they use it.
I think this mindset of time scarcity can unlock some important shit.
Living is spending time.
Making a living is selling time.
There’s no savings account for time.
There’s no compounding interest.
All we can do is direct the limited supply to where it matters the most.
Imagine everyone on Earth is allotted 100,000 gallons of water per person per lifetime.
The amount stays in a big tank in the back yard.
We can do anything with that water, but we’re under constant pressure to sell it.
If we sell it all, we don’t have enough for our garden.
@PeterDiamandis Assuming you had more time, what would you do with it?
Most of the comments here are talking about productivity - “with more time, I could sell it!”
Selling your time is making a living but it’s not the same as living. Living is what you do with time.
@RockChartrand@naval I think the ideas that we have the right to housing and a job that we love are relatively new concepts, possibly existing in a bubble that’s been inflating since the Great Depression.
@SahilBloom The importance of character can’t be overstated in how it improves the opportunities you get. Skill is certainly a component, but people will always choose to work with someone with strong character over someone with sharp skills but weak character.
John Steinbeck captures the importance of human resilience:
“Men don’t get knocked out. They can fight back against big things. What kills them is erosion.”
@StevenBartlett Let’s say…
It’s all falling apart. It’s going to come crashing down and you’ll be left here with no job and a pile of valueless currency to figure out what to do.
And you know for a fact this will happen in exactly one year.
What are you gonna do between now and then?
