PhD opportunity in computational population genetics at @MPI_EVA_Leipzig:
Join our fully funded project to develop IBD-segment tools, connecting high-quality genomes from 500 Black Death victims to modern Europeans. 🌍💻🧬
Please spread the word! 📢🙌

Very excited to (virtually) attend #EESHuman! 💀🧬
Off to a great start with a talk by Nobel Laureate Svante Pääbo.
Hoping to see some of the posters over here (for those of up streaming from across the Atlantic) and to connect with people 😁
Our preprint looking at the impact of stabilizing and directional selection on the prediction of complex traits in ancient samples is out. This work was spearheaded by @valenomics in collaboration with @mashaals and @emiliahsc .
This is now published in Scientific Data: https://t.co/7aY7NMqdcE. The survey is expanded to 42 studies, and the paper now includes a Box 1: "Step-by-step best practices for archiving ancient genomics data in the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA)." I hope this will prove useful!
New preprint also dropped on bioRxiv today. This work was spearheaded by awesome former @qbio_usc undergrad @JulieLi531446 alongside @_ellie_cat with sims courtesy of @TessaFerrari and software incorporation from Michael and Ellie
Super excited to be at #SMBE2024!!!
I’ll be presenting a poster in Session 1 later today (2:20 pm at Boca de Tomates) on my project using aDNA 💀🧬 to investigate the relationship between runs of homozygosity and height in ancient European populations. Come say hi! 👋🏼
The honorable mention for the MBE Best Student Paper award this year goes to @Georgette_F for her article, Genetic Load and Adaptive Potential of a Recovered Avian Species that Narrowly Avoided Extinction https://t.co/ViNfB6bASy @OfficialSMBE#science#evolution#smbe2024
Calico cats are not a breed of cats, but they have a distinctive orange and black color pattern linked to the X chromosome and its inactivation pattern! We think that’s just purrr-fect. 😺
#ENTÉRATE: Niños y gemelos eran sacrificados en Chichén Itzá, revela estudio de genomas antiguos
🔹Así lo da a conocer un artículo publicado en la revista Nature, en el que participaron cuatro investigadores adscritos al INAH

New Preprint by @YileiHuang317 and with @ShaiCarmi:
Using IBD tracts in time transects boosts inferring effective population size trajectories. 📈🧬
We released this as a tool called TTNE, well-suited for the increasingly large aDNA time series.

Another pre-print out. This one co-lead with @zszpiech and Sweetalana. Super fun project that explored another side of the data I used for my PhD work. Here,we asked whether ROH quantified as FROH were associated with non-disease traits in dogs
First paper from the lab! Work with @Xinjun90 and led by super talented former @qbio_usc student @TessaFerrari. Stay tuned for a thread summarizing results.
