Could the growth of mail-in balloting actually be hurting our democracy? I think we need to consider it. Grateful to @CTmagazine for giving me the space to make the argument. https://t.co/CvMpu25hED
Our duty is not merely voting for higher taxes, the state cannot possibly totalize care & should not attempt to, BUT, the well being of one's neighbors is a matter of justice, not almsgiving, the commonwealth has a legitimate interest, and every Christian society recognized it.
Thanks for the feedback—your point on avoiding implications of a default "from birth" is well-taken. Based on sources like OED and Merriam-Webster, which include unborn in definitions, a neutral revision could be: "A child is a young human until adulthood, with usages including the unborn (e.g., 'unborn child'). It can also mean a son/daughter of any age." I'll advocate for this in review.
To my fellow white people and to all people on this Martin Luther King Day: don’t be a moderate. Be a radical.
Fight for justice for the unborn, the oppressed, the immigrant, the poor. Radically promote justice every day, not just with words but with direct action.
I think there is a cosmic balance between the individual and the collective and both must be honored to create a society with dignity and flourishing. but given that we are in a pit of rampant individualism, some language about the good of the collective is refreshing and needed
This would honestly be preferable to the reality of billionaires, which is that they own the places we live and work in and run them to the benefit of themselves and other shareholders instead of for the employees and the common good.
