Some bittersweet news: after more than three years, I’m wrapping up my time @DigitalChamber and joining @Chainlink as Head of Policy.
I’m incredibly proud of what team TDC achieved together - from helping get the GENIUS Act signed into law and moving the Clarity Act forward, to securing 50 government speakers for the DC Blockchain Summit, and so many more wins.
I'll always be grateful to @CodyCarboneDC, @ZuneraMazhar, @PerianneDC and so many others for betting on me and giving me room to run. We pulled off the impossible and made memories I'll carry forever.
I’m closing this chapter with enormous gratitude for what we built and so much excitement for what’s next. I’m thrilled to be joining Chainlink Labs at a moment when global markets are moving onchain at lightning speed, Chainlink is building the infrastructure making that transition possible.

Post-quantum-ready deposit contract

Highlights:
- Introduces a new validator deposit contract that supports variable-length `pubkey` and `credential_metadata` fields (each capped at 8192 bytes) plus an explicit `scheme` identifier; scheme 0 is reserved for today’s BLS deposits.
- Removes reliance on the legacy deposit contract’s Merkle tree / `deposit_data_root` approach by using log-derived execution requests carried to consensus via EIP-7685 (building on the post-EIP-6110 model).
- Defines irreversible contract modes controlled only by protocol system calls: deposits start disabled, then switch to BLS-enabled at `INITIAL_ACTIVATION_TIMESTAMP`, and later permanently retire BLS deposits at `BLS_RETIREMENT_TIMESTAMP` (BLS can’t be re-enabled).
- During a migration period, execution clients must combine deposits from both the legacy deposit contract and the new contract into a single ordered generalized request list; after activation they must stop emitting the old EIP-6110 deposit request type, and after retirement they must stop translating legacy deposit logs into requests.
- Consensus processing stays unchanged for BLS (it appends to `state.pending_deposits` per EIP-7251), while non-BLS/unassigned schemes are carried through the system but ignored by consensus initially—enabling forward compatibility for future post-quantum credential-scheme EIPs without changing the contract again.
ELI5:
Ethereum needs a new “staking deposit box” that can hold different kinds of validator keys, including future bigger keys that might be safer against quantum computers. This EIP makes a new deposit contract where you can put in a public key and extra key info of variable size, and you label what kind of key it is with a small “scheme” number. For now, scheme 0 means the current BLS keys. The contract mostly just records deposits as events, and the beacon chain later decides whether the credentials are valid. It also adds an on-chain one-way switch so Ethereum can permanently stop accepting new BLS deposits at a chosen time, pushing everyone to newer (post-quantum) credential types later.

After nearly a decade of building on and for Ethereum, joining a team dedicated to making it the settlement layer for all of global finance feels a bit like coming home!
I've written many times about my deep conviction that Ethereum is the digital equivalent of 15th-century Venice: a dependable, neutral trade hub for people all around the world.
A place for private banking clients and the unbanked. For billion-dollar institutions and broke college students making their first trade. A place for the west, a place for the east - and everything in-between.
Ethereum doesn't win because decentralization, transparency, and trustlessness are morally virtuous. It wins because a credibly neutral, censorship-resistant global ledger with over a decade of 100% uptime *is* the game theoretically optimal home of global finance - and capital always flows to where it's most efficiently deployed.
None of this means the work is over, or that Ethereum has some divine right to success. The vision becomes reality if and only if Ethereum scales to support these use cases.
Only if companies can effortlessly build L2s that inherit the security of the L1. Only if self-custody becomes easy to do and secure enough for every private account and company treasury. Only if transactions become private. Only if the chain supports all the features a healthy DeFi ecosystem needs.
And, most importantly - only if the chain scales to meet this demand.
Getting there will take work on the core protocol, the account layer, cross-chain interop, policy, developer tooling, and much more.
