The neighborhood is not a playground for the ideological mafia militia that the Iranian regime is, and it doesn’t get to decide and bully how neighboring countries govern, or engage in collective punishment after being a bad actor to its own population and the region for decades. Until the speakers in this panel start to respect the sentiment of millions of victims of the Iranian regime in the region, their will find themselves and their voices further isolated and disconnected from reality.

בהחלט ישנם דרוזים שמעדיפים לחיות תחת הגנת ישראל, ועליהם בוודאי שמעתם. כאשר אנשי דת אחרים בחאדר הכריזו לאחר הפלישה הישראלית שהם מעוניינים בסיפוח לישראל, ההודעה זכתה לסיקור מקיר לקיר בישראל. בפועל, דעת הקהל בחאדר אינה אחידה. חאדר הייתה מעוז של משטר אסד וחזבאללה הלבנוני עד נפילתו של אסד. גברים ששירתו בשורות המשטר וחזבאללה חוששים ממעשי נקם או העמדה לדין בידי שלטונות דמשק, ולכן מעדיפים את השליטה הישראלית. לצד זאת, בוודאי לאחר הטבח בסוידאא' (הר הדרוזים), ישנם רבים שחוששים מאלימות על רקע עדתי. אבל לצידם ישנם דרוזים שמעוניינים בהשתלבות במדינה הסורית וסובלים רבות מהתנהלות השלטון הצה"לי בעיירתם. משיחותיי עם אנשי קשר בחאדר, החיפושים בבתים מתרחשים תמיד בלילות ומפחידים את המשפחות, כוללים גם החרבת רכוש, כפי שמתנהלים החיפושים הצה"ליים בגדה המערבית, וגם שאלות חוזרות ונשנות על "מי הטרוריסטים בכפר?"
אין דרך לנהל כיבוש הומאני, אפילו אם ישראל מלווה את נוכחותה בעיירות הדרוזיות באספקת סיוע הומניטרי שנתרם על-ידי הקהילה הדרוזית בישראל. הכוחות הישראלים מדמיינים מרחב מלא באיומים ומנסים לאתרם. האיתור דורש חיפושים, מעצרים, תשאולים. הגנה על הכוחות דורשת חסימת צירים ומניעת גישה לאיזורים בהם נמצאים הכוחות. יכול להיות שישנם איומים במרחב הזה - איומים שאיתם ישראל צריכה להתמודד מתוך שטחה כמו כל מדינה אחרת בעולם. מה שבטוח הוא שהמשך הפגיעה באוכלוסייה תייצר את ההתנגדות שישראל חוששת ממנה.
כמובן שרוב האוכלוסייה תחת שליטת הצבא הישראלי בדרום סוריה הם בכלל סונים שמתנגדים לנוכחות שכוללת את התופעות שמזכירים אנשי הדת הדרוזים, אבל גם ריסוס של שדות חקלאיים ובתי גידול לדבורים ליד גדר הגבול על הגולן, מעצרים, מניעת גישה תמידית לשדות וחורשות, חיפושים תכופים במחסומים והריסת מספר בתים ושדות.

Words of condemnation alone will not stop attacks on Kyiv. Only sustained military support for Ukraine and increased pressure on Moscow can do that.

This week, the EU has started disbursing €6 billion under the €90 billion support loan to strengthen Kyiv’s defences.

Today, I will propose to sanction more entities supporting Russia’s military-industrial complex in response to the strikes. The more Moscow attacks civilians, the more sanctions must be imposed.

We keep raising the cost until Russia understands it cannot win.

EU staff in Kyiv are accounted for. I am deeply grateful to our colleagues on the ground, who continue their work with courage and dedication under the most difficult circumstances.
