@immanencer @martinmbauer As amazing as LLMs can be, I find the usage of such wording to be intentionally misleading. Nothing an LLM does can be called "reasoning", for example. The details in the "finer" print don't nullify the choice of words for the majority of the text.

"Reason" and whatnot. Yes, the page goes on to describe in more detail its limitations, but clearly not their focus.

That's a question. It answers it to you, and sure, if you add "think in steps" it does a better (?) job at demonstrating it's just showing you a path towards a solution, but otherwise it pretends to actually know.

@immanencer @martinmbauer If they're just writing assistants, they shouldn't answer questions. They should be coded accordingly. But that's clearly not what their marketing wants to communicate.

And requiring the prompt "think in steps" is weird. Bad training data, perhaps?

@immanencer @martinmbauer Well, they're clearly neither marketed as such, nor do they display any signs, inside the product, of being just that. You asked a question and it hallucinated an answer, so people expect to use that precisely to get answers to questions. 1/2
