My friend pays $512 a month for health insurance.

That’s $6,144 a year.

He injured his shoulder and needed an MRI.

In-network doctor.
In-network facility.
Insurance approved everything.

The bill came back at $2,700.

Insurance negotiated it down to $1,740.

His deductible?

$2,000.

So he paid the entire $1,740 out of pocket.

That means he’s already spent $7,884 this year between premiums and one MRI.

Then he asked what the cash price would’ve been without insurance.

$950.

So having insurance made the same MRI $790 more expensive for him.

Very cool.

Here’s something revealing I found while investigating the Office of the Attending Physician.

Congress created this operation in 1928 after medical emergencies, initially requesting one Navy physician to be available during House sessions.

Today, it has grown to nearly 50 people with 24-hour availability, and Admiral Brian Monahan himself testified that OAP “principally provides primary care.” Primary care.

The House’s FY2027 proposal would provide nearly $5.5 million for this office.

So why are taxpayers spending millions to provide Congress with around-the-clock primary care when Members already have health insurance and access to Walter Reed?

And why are active-duty Navy medical personnel being used to provide it?

That’s what I’m investigating.
