‼️🚨 ALARMING: Google now treats privacy as suspicious behavior by default. Users of GrapheneOS, CalyxOS, /e/OS, and other deGoogled Android phones are being locked out of millions of websites unless they install the exact Google Play Services software they deliberately removed.

GrapheneOS is recommended by the EFF and used by journalists, lawyers, and activists in high-risk environments. The audience most likely to read Google's data practices and refuse its terms is now flagged as fraudulent for that exact decision.

What happened?:
▪️ Google announced "Cloud Fraud Defense" at Cloud Next on April 22-23, 2026, branding it "the next evolution of reCAPTCHA." Existing reCAPTCHA customers were auto-migrated.
▪️ When the system flags traffic as suspicious, the old click-the-bus puzzle is gone. Users get a QR code instead.
▪️ Scanning the QR code requires Google Play Services running on the device. Internet Archive snapshots show this requirement has been live since at least October 2025, silently rolled out for 7 months before anyone noticed.
▪️ No Play Services = no QR scan = locked out.

The bigger picture:
▪️ Google already tried this in 2023. It was called Web Environment Integrity (WEI), and it would have let Google decide which devices were "real enough" to access the web. Standards bodies and the public pushed back hard, and Google killed it. Three years later, the same idea is back, just hidden behind a QR code instead of a browser feature.
▪️ reCAPTCHA runs on millions of websites. Every developer who keeps using it is now, by default, telling deGoogled Android users they're not welcome...

@CykaVladimir @rpcs3 But... They aren't even prohibiting AI code. They specifically called out people that produce AI slop code, which is probably hella unstable. Farmers also wouldn't use a tool that gets a job done, let's say 25% of the time. Same with AI slop PRs. Just use AI alongside a brain

@MrBlue1o7 @notch Honestly, I don't hate AI, but I think you should just learn using stuff like tutorials etc. And make projects yourself. AI is fine for making small projects only for your use, maybe help you expand ideas, but you should atleast know what it's doing. But that's just my opinion.

But here's the catch: over 400 of the world's top cybersecurity and privacy experts just signed an open letter waving a massive red flag. Their message? These laws might actually be a gift to scammers and a nightmare for your privacy.

Here's what's actually happening under the hood. To “verify” your age, these systems want your government ID, a facial scan, or your credit card info. That doesn't just sit somewhere safely — it creates a massive digital honeypot. And we've already seen what happens when these vaults get cracked. Remember the 2025 Discord breach? Seventy thousand IDs leaked. When you force millions of people to upload their most sensitive information to the cloud, it's not a matter of if that data gets stolen — it's when.

Here's the part that really stings. The experts (the very same people who helped design the technologies behind age verification) say these systems are shockingly easy to bypass and are not ready for mass implementation. Between VPNs, AI-generated deepfakes, and “verified” accounts sold on the black market, determined kids will get through anyway. Meanwhile, regular adults get stuck in a loop of constant surveillance, and people without the “right” tech or official ID risk getting locked out of the Internet entirely.

We’re all for keeping the web safe for children. But trading everyone’s fundamental privacy for “security theater” isn't the answer. Privacy shouldn't be the price of admission to the Internet.

@ChikaBubbly @Pirat_Nation You do understand that emulation ≠ piracy right? While emulator CAN be used for piracy, they are created with the intent of using them with your own keys, your own firmware, and your own ROMs. I myself emulated a bunch of my games just because they played better on an emulator.
