At @FundConsc, we heard from Program Officers at NIH, NSF, ONR, and AFOSR and PIs who have received R01s (or similar) on funding. Here is a summary of what I learned: 👇

These agencies want to invest in high-risk, high-impact work. This came up a lot: proposals should be innovative, transformative, novel, revolutionary. Incremental = bad. Balance "kitchen sink" with over-ambition.
