America is such a rich country that “mere” half-billionaires like Ro Khanna (wife’s inherited family fortune) and Dan Goldman (Levi Strauss heir), and “down and out” decamillionaires like Liz Warren accuse OTHER PEOPLE of being too rich!
The sheer scale of a trillion dollars can be hard to comprehend. Let me put it in perspective. You would be able to buy 42 miles of high speed rail in California with that much money.
THE DEGREE PREMIUM FOR YOUNG MEN IS GONE
US men 22-27 with a college degree are now unemployed at the same rate as men who never went.
Both now sit at 7%
There was an interview with Sam Bankman Fried a few years ago where he bragged he only wore 3 t-shirts. That he didn't care about clothes. But he owned beautiful mansions all over the world and lavish apartments in New York and Paris.
So he walks around badly dressed on purpose making the public commons ugly for all of us, while owning beautiful homes he can enjoy in private.
It's this attitude that creates the modern ugly world. Make the public areas ugly. While enjoying beauty in private.
That's a new thing. Thankfully, we have beautiful cities from a long time ago that never adhered to that philosophy. We have wonderful paintings of people dressed spectacularly. Who cared about the aesthetic commons.
Depicted below are lymph nodes filled with tattoo ink.
A study published in May 2024 compared 1,398 people ages 20 to 60 who had lymphoma with 4,193 people who did not have lymphoma but who were otherwise similar. The study found that lymphoma was 21% more common among those with tattoos

A Danish twin study found that people with tattoos, especially larger tattoos...had higher rates of certain skin cancers and lymphoma. The authors suggest that tattoo ink, which can accumulate in lymph nodes and cause chronic inflammation, may contribute to cancer risk, though they note that more research is needed to confirm the relationship.

Research indicates that tattoo inks can contain heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, and cobalt, which are linked to cancer, allergic reactions, and other chronic diseases.

About 8 months ago, I warned that “Anthropic is running a sophisticated regulatory capture strategy based on fear-mongering.” This take was controversial at the time; now look how many people are saying it.
Alex Karp says that most of GDP is generated by men, despite most graduate degrees going to women, indicating a massive upheaval and economic correction in the future as a result of AI.

A Scandinavian economist once boasted to Milton Friedman:
“In Scandinavia, we have no poverty.”
Friedman replied:
“That’s interesting, because in America, among Scandinavians, we have no poverty, either.”
every generation gets one generational entry. for baby boomers, it was buying a house for $50k in 1980 and selling it for $1.5m in 2022. for millenials, it was seeing MGMT at terminal 5 for $22 in 2008. for gen z its using claude code to make an app that steals the boomer's house

we live in age of great moral panics about things that don’t matter and zero moral outrage over some of the most egregious societal sins we’ve ever seen
Babies fall asleep faster when you walk while holding them. A recent study suggests this“transport response” may have evolved to keep babies quiet if their caregiver spots a predator and needs to carry their baby away without being noticed: https://t.co/juCJXxazRv
Women are winning the job market.
“Of the 369,000 jobs the US Labor Dept says were created since last year, nearly all – 348,000 of them – went to women.
Only 21,000 went to men.
That means 94% of the net employment growth in the US went to women.
Ninety four percent!” — @TheTinMenBlog
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve made this point, but please take this as a WARNING, and not merely an observation: Anti-social behavior—think about the guy blasting music from a speaker, talking loudly on speaker-phone, smoking inside the subway car, etc.—in public spaces is often engaged in ***_as a dare_***. The whole point is to provoke anger and annoyance in those around him, which serves two purposes, depending on the response he’s hoping for:
(1) If everyone bites their tongues, the antisocial asshole gets to tell himself he’s such a badass no one would dare speak up; or
(2) If someone confronts him, he finds his excuse to scratch a violent itch.
Understand that saying something to these people will often come with a real risk of violent confrontation.
