Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe on Thursday ordered a ban on the sale of loose/unpacked edible oil across the state. Mundhe warned that violations could attract a prison sentence of up to 7 years. He said adulteration of edible oil directly affects public health and "no compromise will be made" on safety. Misleading advertisements can attract a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh. The public has also been advised against buying loose oil.

@ProCloud_ @Tukaram_IndIAS Just because a food is designated as traditional doesn’t mean it has to be healthy. The idea is to ensure that healthy foods are eaten. The so called Vada pav and misal pav are cooked in loads of palm oil to avoid cost cutting. Set aside emotions when it comes to health.

The site even helps people turn their reports into formal complaints for anti-corruption authorities.

The response has been huge, 25 lakh requests in just 10 hours.
