This striking route to targeted protein degradation is exemplified by BI-3802. It binds transcription factor B cell lymphoma 6 (BCL6) and induces its reversible assembly into filaments. The resulting supramolecular structure promotes ubiquitination by the SIAH1 E3 ligase and proteasomal degradation of BCL6. Cryo-EM revealed how the drug becomes part of the protein–protein interface that drives polymerization.

1. An investigation by The Indian Express has revealed that 2 of the 3 Election Commissioners — Sukhbir Singh Sandhu & Vivek Joshi — raised 14 objections to some aspects of the SIR over a period of 10 months. #CutTheClutter looks at what the story reveals, what it means & what it doesn’t. 2. First, let’s understand some of the institutional protections in place, which make our election process among the most trusted in the world:
·        The EC is a 3-member body. The CEC is first among equals. All 3 members possess equal powers. No one has a veto. CEC doesn’t have casting vote
·        If there is disagreement over a substantive issue, then a full commission meeting takes place. Members vote. Majority wins
·        The vote must be unanimous if regulatory changes are required
·        There are rules laid down by law (Registration of Electors Rules 1960). If procedural changes need to be made that are not provided for in the rules, the change has to come from the govt. EC does not have the power

3. Now, lately, there have been questions about the EC, many related to SIR. So, first of all, let’s be clear, the principle of SIR isn’t electoral theft. SIR is not an innovation. India has conducted it before. The issue, therefore, is how the SIR process is being conducted. And 2 ECs have repeatedly said decisions are being taken without their knowledge or approval, which greatly undermines the legal, constitutional & moral authority of the Commission.            

4. These are the broad categories in which the objections raised by the 2 ECs fall: Changes to Form 6 (goes against the 1960 rule book), control of electoral databases (increasing centralisation), technical barriers preventing restoration of eligible voters (Goa, 97 voters found eligible by ERO couldn’t be restored) & appeals against restored voters (West Bengal controversy).

5. The big questions that now arise are critical to our democracy. Who gets onto electoral rolls? Who gets deleted? Who gets restored? How does one get restored? What does a new voter need to do to be registered? Who has access to the database of voters? Who can alter that database? And who authorised millions of appeals against those restored by judicial officers as per SC instructions?

6. There’s an open letter by KBS Sidhu, former special chief secretary of Punjab, to the two ECs, saying they should immediately demand a convening of the full Election Commission to raise the questions & vote on them, if need be. I think that will be a good course of action.

Detaining Imran Khan’s sisters for standing up for their brother’s freedom is deeply troubling. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met Mr. Bill Gates, Chair of the Gates Foundation on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 2026) Session.

Recalling Gates Foundation Team’s recent visit to Pakistan earlier this month, the Prime Minister appreciated the Foundation’s engagement with Pakistan in support of polio eradication, maternal and child health, nutrition, immunization, digitization, and financial inclusion. 

The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to ensure complete eradication of polio from the country. He thanked the Gates Foundation for its longstanding assistance in the important endeavor and expresses his personal commitment to polio eradication.

Acknowledging Pakistan’s efforts under Prime Minister’s leadership, Mr. Gates stressed that polio eradication was vital to protect future generations from this crippling disease. He appreciated the Prime Minister’s personal guidance to the Provincial Governments for the polio vaccine program across the country.

The Prime Minister complimented the Gates Foundation for being a trusted partner in Pakistan’s socio-economic development and expressed interest in broadening collaboration in areas including public health, agriculture, digital innovation and AI. 

The Prime Minister also apprised Mr. Gates of the Agri Reforms that the Government was undertaking, with particular emphasis on innovation, biotechnology, climate resilience, research, and capacity-building for farmers. The two sides agreed to explore opportunities for collaboration in the development of improved seeds, livestock genetics and emerging agricultural technologies.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continued and constructive engagement with a view to further strengthening and expanding partnerships that support sustainable development, technological advancement and improved social sectors outcomes for the people of Pakistan. While recalling his earlier visits, the Prime Minister extended an invitation to Mr. Gates to undertake a visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience.
