In a context where borrowing costs continue to rise and fiscal rules are tight, drawing creatively on the full suite of policy and reform tools to support growth will gain even greater urgency without the option to raise spending.
This means working creatively with place 👇

It’s great to see @CentreforCities highlighting the importance of a place-based approach to Local Growth plans.
This is something that IGN members from around the UK have long understood as a key to driving inclusive growth everywhere. (1/3)
Today saw the release of the long-awaited English Devolution White Paper.
An important debate now follows on how we push power from Whitehall and how we promote coherence and collaboration across all tiers of government.

There is much to celebrate in the English Devolution White Paper, but we need to be realistic about what it is - a first step towards embedding more meaningful power for places.

Interesting new research from @LabourTogether on people's experiences of devolution in their area.
Still so much work to do to make devolution more meaningful in people's lives if it's true potential is to be harnessed.
📣 New report and research 📣
We’ve published ‘Mayoral Matters’ looking at public attitudes to mayors and devolution in the parts of England which have actually experienced it.

Thanks to all speakers, attendees, those who tuned in online to our #IGConf24, and to our brilliant host @ayeshahazarika!
The day set out a clear case for cross-tier collaboration to embed inclusive growth and progress the government's missions.
Great to have @JimfromOldham's keynote at our #IGConf24 speaking to government's commitment to resetting the partnership of power between the centre + our local areas.
Setting the scene for our emerging work with @FutureGovForum + @metrodynamics to evolve on our @IGN_tweets
Really looking forward to chairing what will be an excellent & timely conference for @CentreProPolicy examining one of the issues of our time - growth! How do we get it? How do we make it inclusive? What role do the nations & regions play?
"Cities are not mirror images of national governments; they are networks of institutions capable of moving horizontally to deliver collective responses to difficult challenges.
Great as ever from @bruce_katz situating UK devolution globally.

The progressive change needed can't be delivered by central gov alone. It requires a partnership between central, regional and local gov, business and trade unions, both to develop the new ideas and policies to implement them.
