@DrZersetzung Is it evil that I like this type of hypothetical question because I feel like it could be so revealing. i would hate getting it though id probably respond that I don’t believe in assigning blame to one party like that
@KevinJCow Yea makes more sense to me when it’s smaller elite private schools not reporting them, but I would think that in the long term it puts graduates at a disadvantage once the extent of grade inflation is known. I don’t think it’s in the interest of public unis to hide this info tho
Seeing so many things about grade inflation and it baffles me there are still places that don't report class average on student transcripts. If every school put class avg + avg major gpa + overall university gpa, so much information asymmetry would be resolved
@drea88 Regionalism is huge in the west, a significant amount of identity is rooted in “not being Ontario” to the point where ppl roll with whatever perception they have, whether true or not. Kinda understandable bc you hear about Toronto so much in the media & I think that annoys ppl
Me (in initial yrs of PhD): I am just starting and I'm passionate about this ques. I'm gonna read, think, discuss and develop hypothesis+ get hands dirty with empirics.
Meanwhile econ twitter: if you are not vibe coding, developing a full paper in 22 mins with claude code and +
It’s crazy how viruses work. I got super sick last week, recovered to a point where I felt 75% fine, and then last night started hacking so hard that I actually think I pulled a rib muscle. Now I am crazy dizzy. Like is it a different virus or can a cold just… do that???
gre is literally like “oh can you do 15 math questions in 26 minutes? btw if you get one of them wrong you’re not going to grad school” and then the questions are like if someone threw my lowest effort high school math tutoring problems in a blender
As an introverted, generally quiet woman who (sometimes, not always) feels like seminars are deeply scary because of how intense the questions can get this is quite validating lol
+ random anecdote but this & the lit on who asks questions always reminds me of this time I attended a presentation on gendered coauthorship networks, almost felt compelled to ask some Qs during, didn’t, spoke to the presenter after, & she noted it was ~90% men asking things
