@kouri_sophia From personal experience, I would think that it;s because on our phones we don't hear in depth stories like we would from the news or articles that we read. Instead we might see one Instagram post among many others and not remember it. #UWJ201 #318
@MaryWenthur In my opinion it seems more normal for younger people today to disagree with their parents beliefs, although I feel like the life experiences we grow up with give us the perspective to choose our own political beliefs #UWJ201 #318
@amanykay @ellese_martin I do feel that by having multiple authors who have diverse opinions, if both sides are covered, it could be very likely for an article to be unbiased. #UWJ201 #318
@LiamNicol1 That is interesting... I wonder as well what percentage of the population felt represented by he media when there were less perspectives to cover, or if it has stayed relatively the same? #UWJ201 #318
@cassier0108 I don't think that he gave these companies much of a choice but to silence him. He was causing real damage in society and his following, whether they were misinterpreting him or not, were endangering others which these companies cannot be held accountable for. #UWJ201 #318
@CeelenElla #UWJ201 #318 I think that the concept of publicly owned social media would be pretty difficult, but something to look into. I think that if there are set Terms and Conditions which are not enforced by only a select number of people that could be effective.
@QuangNg32710077#UWJ201 #318 I feel "mainstream" ideas are so popular is because a lot of major events are covered from different perspectives, giving people a broad range of knowledge. Events which aren't covered as widely are still important to cover but might not be sought after as highly.
@DanyalKMirza@kentzminger24#UWJ201 #318 I would have to agree, the more I learn from the class the more I realize that behind most news sources are biases and perspectives that typically align with a specific opinion, rather than just stating out-of-context facts.
@KaitlynRock2 I would have to agree, even the readings from last week really emphasized the point that conversation with people who have differing viewpoints changes people's perspectives of the "other side" and how they may be more relatable than they once thought. #UWJ201 #318
@LogaLindsey#UWJ201 #318 I also think it's very interesting how geographic location play a crucial role in which sources we depend on for media consumption, even within a single state it can vary greatly based on if you live an urban/ suburban/ rural lifestyle.
@cassier0108#UWJ201 #318 I think humans are to blame for the hostile media effect. Perception of how people think others view things leads to communication that isn't representative of what people believe. Perceived bias leads to not wanting to communicate, therefore adding to polarization.
@CeelenElla @MasonWaas#UWJ201 #318 This is an interesting point! I feel like it is rare that there is a party besides the Democratic or Republican party that can compare in terms of number of supporters, it would be fascinating to see a dynamic of more than two popular groups.
@hubmer2#UWJ201 #318 This is a good point; it's difficult how many people depend on social media and their smart phones to get important news information, but also the amount of time people spend on their devices can be unhealthy and addicting.
@ellese_martin #UWJ201 #318 Framework is definitely important for how people receive the news and accept what it's telling them. I try to look at a broad range of main news sources so that I am getting a less-biased view of current events.
@erinpease3 # UWJ201 #318 I was thinking of this as well... Probably because many shows are or used to be produced by men and were meant to appeal to men more. Many of the shows I watch recently have a woman as the main character or hero, though (Grey's Anatomy, New Girl, Madam Secretary).
@AbigailLeavins@AlisonStecker I would definitely agree that all types have a big impact on your life. When I do engage in interpersonal communication it is the most influential compared to the others, but because of COVID, I engage in lots of mediated communication due to lack of face-to-face. #UWJ201 #318
@belladestefanis To me, there are many different ways that storytelling has affected how I view an event... for example, if you hear a story about 9/11 from someone who witnessed the tragedy first-hand, it will shape your view of the entire event because of the emotion involved. #UWJ201 #318
