This is an exaggeration. I’ve lived in Vancouver my whole life, you can do very well with $120K salary. There are many places you can rent for much less than $3K in the greater Vancouver area. You also don’t need to have a car, I know many people who are fine without, considering numerous transit and cycling options.

@ShangguanJiewen Most of the comments are arguing in the extremes of either side, which is not productive.
China is not true communism, It’s a one-party authoritarian state with a state-capitalist economy.
Its socialist aspects are funded by a strong capitalistic system.

@austinxwalker Sadly this was my experience also. Basically impossible to raise for a tech company in Canada of you want to hyper scale.

Almost all our investors are SF firms. NY has a decent scene also.

@ilyabrotzky @austinxwalker You can definitely raise in SF and build in Canada. We did it.

There are several strategic benefits:
1. Lower employee costs. There is no healthcare insurance an employer needs to pay, and salaries are 20-50% less
2. SRED tax credits give you 40% rebate on all engineering costs

A more accurate description would be a "Space Raft", not a "Space Ship".
