To understand the failings of Britain's strategy for offshore wind, you've really got to delve into the details of the projects we've built.
Unfortunately this usually leaves you with more questions than when you started. A perfect example is Dudgeon wind farm:
@thinkdefence Gunner wife says no, firing then getting away is “just SOPs”. Quick action is stopping to fire an urgent mission while in transit, and a gun raid is pushing them forward as far as possible to extend range before pulling them back again.
@kingsbury_ollie@patricklittle19 @bermicourt @WhitmarshM Yes to Merkava (dismounts are a bonus), no to Namer (no large bore cannon).
Muting this thread now 😂
@kingsbury_ollie Ok, I’ll bite… it is as simple, if not simpler:
A tank has tracks, a cannon that can defeat other heavily armoured vehicles, and enough armour to take hits from other large main armaments.
All of the group races at the tank biathlon at the army games have now finished, so here’s a thread of all the best videos from this years races. Starting with the Venezuelan commanders reaction to his crew missing all their targets with the main gun.
@ARubbishBot Do you upgrade your own smartphone every couple of years? Just give them the old one with a SIM linked to your plan inside it, and you can then limit data, turn off roaming, etc.
@SamWatt8600@combat_boot We’re taught not to click on weird links from people we don’t know but then get sent an email from Wazoku about Ideas Space Managers. Maybe it’s a test as part of cyber awareness month?
@combat_boot@WHearnshaw @J1mb0bbz @4d_s5@Cookie2148 @bermicourt @MilitaryStoic @Strategyforwar1 @MortenKathy@ChrisGSeaton There’s definitely a balance to be struck - promoting all the flyers at EED-19 and then saying “if you miss that you’re doomed” will screw things up hugely. But allowing people on EED-5 to promote at 30 points while the person on 45 points at EED-17 doesn’t is not healthy.
@combat_boot@4d_s5@Cookie2148 @bermicourt @MilitaryStoic @WHearnshaw @Strategyforwar1 @MortenKathy@ChrisGSeaton I’d rather disappoint a small cohort in the short term to fix the problem in the long term.
Also, sad to say, if people have been majors for 20 years and had 14 looks at PL then they probably shouldn’t get it just because it’s “their turn” (less those with deep KSE).
@Cookie2148 Can you share anything about the type of events the candidates went through please? And was there any comparison - like the US Army did with the BCAP program - on how much difference there was in the overall order of merit when scored with and without the OSCA reports?
Great article. In a profession where most leaders and managers own so few of the actual levers to make a difference - let alone within that reporting period - we should be setting long term stretch goals for the organisation which we might miss now.
Trying to make objectives specific and measurable may be our downfall, warns this author. It's an interesting argument. What's your take?
