The fields of medicine & science are centred on open dialogue/debate, scientific inquiry/evidence and transparent facts. For there to be scientific/medical advancements, open debate/inquiry must never be censored or shut down with nonsensical & irrational terms such as “anti-science”, “anti-evidence”, “fringe”,“misinformation”: it’s well past time to end the weaponization of these covid era censorship terms which have sowed significant public distrust. Instead, we should be fostering civil open debate & collegiality in the pursuit of truth which is in the public interest: that’s how our profession will regain public trust. Science isn’t a discipline of an illusion of “consensus”: it’s a discipline that demands any orthodoxy to be openly challenged and vigorously debated with critical appraisal and academic freedom to foster medical and scientific advancements.

If the @Albertadoctors president @drslmd disputes any portions of the @YourAlberta govt report commissioned by Premier @ABDanielleSmith, and which is authored by physicians and scientists, many of whom are Dr. Duggan’s own colleagues and whom cite several hundred published peer-reviewed studies/evidence, then I encourage Dr. Duggan to publish a public rebuttal WITH peer-reviewed citations. That’s how physicians and scientists have always made advancements in the pursuit of truth and for the betterment of humanity. What is the AMA’s position on a national public inquiry into the provincial and federal covid responses for full public transparency and accountability?

We must ALL be committed to transcending above any political differences and creating an environment that embraces inquiry and curiosity to enable the civil exchange of ideas to foster mutual understanding: this is what’s in the public interest and this is what will restore public trust.
