We ask people to sit at a desk for 8 hours and be creative on command. Morgan Housel told me that this is not how it works. He argues: "Good ideas can't be scheduled."
"I can't structure creativity. I just have to let myself go and trust that it'll hit me eventually. The title for the my first book just hit me walking down the streets of New York. For the title of my latest book, I was on the treadmill just zoning out.
Whenever I come up with stories and hooks, it's never when I've been trying to do it. It's in the shower, it's walking my dog, it's waking up at 2am wrestling around in bed. It's always in the unstructured moments."
@PikettyWIL So all we need to do is put your allies in charge, give global government huge new powers and then you’ll take care of it from there.
Politely decline, sir.
"Buy, borrow, die" is a neat theory for wealthy tax avoidance, but research shows that rich people don't actually use it.

NY's last big "moratorium" was on fracking. The "study" took 4 years. It was originally about the (considerable) water use. The moratorium turned into a ban.
When the industry came up with a waterless method, Albany banned that too.
Today in New Jersey, state senators were offered a chance to scrap the Labor Department's freelance-busting rule, to try and help every type of independent contractor in the state.
Democrats in the majority voted to keep the rule in place.

Illinois lawmakers didn't think through their definition of social media platforms.
The new tax could capture WhatsApp, GitHub, Teams, Slack, Goodreads, Google Groups, iCloud, iMessage, Dropbox, Strava, Salesforce, Yelp, Indeed, Substack, maybe even Gmail accounts. #ILPolitics
San Diego voters say NO to tax hike:
"results show that there is a hefty rebuke from the taxpayers of San Diego that they don’t want another tax"

California county says NO to sales tax hike.
The tax hike was to "fund general county services."
Voters rejected it nearly 60-40.

@ragajus This will get punted every year until it turns into a permanent ban. New York is determined to shoot itself in the foot, just as it did with the "temporary" fracking ban.
