As I review my STEAM semester plan and unit plan for the Spring, I am reminded how important it is to plan ahead. One can not truly be intentional in their planning without thorough preparation and reflection. #isteamdream
It was truly inspiring to see the artistic interpretation of fellow educators this evening. Each piece showed the growth we’ve experienced becoming STEAM educators in a unique way. #isteamdream
#UNBROKEN18 is in full swing at Jessye Norman School downtown! Great turnout so far for the showcase of our transformative chakras #STEAMTEAMS#STEAMerdreamer @rawrdimus
@jtalmarode encourages us to pose these questions for students to reflect on and answer. Students should always know where they are in the learning process and why it is relevant. #isteamdream
This experiment by engineer, @DestinSandlin perfectly shows the plasticity of a child’s brain and how we should be taking advantage of it in the classroom. It also supports the idea that knowledge does not equal understanding. #isteamdream
A major way STEAM has changed my teaching style is it has made me much more intentional when I create units. I’m less afraid of the integrative nature of STEAM and am finding ways to enhance learning through design thinking. #isteamdream
It’s all been leading up to this. Please join us as we celebrate STEAM education! Art show @JessyeSchool from 7-9 this Friday evening. #STEAMTEAMS#isteamdream
@markdalgleish I couldn’t agree more! Do you think schools should be teaching the design process so this understanding is developed early on? #isteamdream
My biggest issue with designs being shown to developers too late is not that the work will turn it to be impossible, but that the design will be inelegant once built. Good design is so much more than the surface layer that traditional design tools expose.
@ArtsyMe1 Educators are teaching design thinking and the design process in the classroom. Technology and engineering have typically been used, but now art has been included in STEAM education. Why do you believe art is an important avenue for design thinking? #isteamdream
The following quote makes me think of my experience becoming a STEAM educator. “In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; but in practice there is. I would only have a basic understanding of the approach without having to practice it myself. #STEAMTEAMS
For my students, who have only ever used a digital camera, it was amazing to go into the darkroom and make prints with @pacefoto. Thank you for the hands-on experience where they were able to participate in the design process and learn the science behind photography. #isteamdream
I have found myself noticing how so many professionals I know use the STEAM approach everyday in order to be successful. The greatest gift we can give our students is to provide them with these skills early on. STEAM learning can open so many doors for our students. #STEAMTEAMS
We had the privilege of spending the day w/ the Art Dept. at AU. The day included photography, animation, ceramics, and sculptures. The disciplines of STEAM, collaboration, and the design process was everywhere. A truly exceptional experience for us all! @isteamprof#STEAMTEAMS
When referencing the old saying “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink, @rickwormeli2 states, “get them to the content and make it so compelling they want drink from it”. STEAM education does just that through integrative design-based learning. #isteamdream
Problem-based and project-based learning are not strong enough to stand alone. They can offer support to a thorough & authentic ISTEAM approach. @isteamprof states, “an authentic ISTEAM educational approach must be integrative, intentional, and anchored in design”. #isteamdream
Feedback is essential in the STEAM design process, and students must reflect and utilize feedback to redesign. This goes for teachers as well. Feedback from colleagues provides validation on what's working in your design and motivation to make it even better! #STEAMTEAMS
Yesterday, I witnessed as students from across Georgia celebrated the power of STEAM education at the #MINDFRAME competition. It was a powerful experience to see the pride and passion they all shared! The projects and performances were fantastic! #isteamdream#steamteams
The concept of driving questions has been tricky for me. Creating a tubric from @BuckInstitute has helped me develop highly engaging, relevant, and open-ended DQ’s to govern my units of study. #steamteams https://t.co/EoXxHPvvmW
Mindfulness is such an important skill for students to have. A state of acceptance and self-awareness is where creativity and innovation thrives. #STEAMTEAMS
At its core #mindfulness is self-awareness, a way for students to ground themselves in the moment, creating space to better understand and manage their feelings @callmeKi https://t.co/9nbSVNhYLV #edchat#sel#parents
