By now, you might’ve heard me bang on about THE UNIVERSE IN A BOX a bit (published next week by @riverheadbooks@JonathanCape@vintagebooks... see the preorder links https://t.co/ZzmFK9wAsO). But what is it and why did I write it? 🧵1/
Listen to Prof Andrew Pontzen @apontzen@DurhamPhysics@DarkerMatters talk about new data from the @desisurvey and what it could mean for our understanding of the Universe 👉 https://t.co/wrJcccue9Y
@amsterdammed@durham_uni No problem at all! hope things are well with you and to see you one of these days - though obviously, less likely to happen randomly on the train now…
Oh dear, I have missed most of @apontzen talking about wormholes on @BBCInOurTime ! If only it were possible to travel back in time so I could hear the beginning…
@jlu_astro @farrwill I hope so but this will be down to Eric who is the mastermind behind the “inferno” scheme. Main issue is we don’t (yet) have collisional dynamics
Turns out stars aren’t just giant blobs after all! When individual stars are resolved in galaxy simulations, things change a lot. Beautiful work from Eric Andersson, Martin Rey + EDGE team https://t.co/xmpSgDEZsM
This is bold, fun and provocative! Could dark matter be a mirage arising from the quantum-classical dichotomy? We don’t know - an awful lot still to work out - but well worth exploring. https://t.co/Kgep52SvQY
My new article in collaboration with @postquantum and @apontzen explores the cosmological effects of spacetime diffusion. We show that the diffusion leads to the appearance of phantom dark matter, whose energy density is positive on average. 1/2
HEIs are not sharing info on disciplinary sanctions taken after an upheld complaint, as this is seen as 'private data' of the reported party.
This is happening RIGHT NOW in UK HE, as my inbox attests. How is there any justice for reporting parties when they aren't told this?
@TimandraHarknes When I questioned this once before at my local station i was told the issue is systemic - current franchise agreements incentivise companies to run individual trains on time, not to get people to their destination as quickly as possible.
Sadly I'm not at #emfcamp this year, but if I was I'd be walking around with a banner about this (funded!) PhD studentship: https://t.co/mH592vS1xK Come and play^H^H^H^H research family robotics and tinkering with us, it'll be a hoot^H^H^H^H^H fill an important gap.
@HMRCcustomers Well, it literally means I cannot get paid for my work - not sure I’d class that as ‘inconvenience’. I appreciate it’s not the fault of whoever answers these tweets, but if you have any advice for how to work within your broken system I’d be grateful.
@HMRCcustomers I just spent an hour on hold to your phoneline, then it just cut me off. I tried your online chatbot but it says I couldn't talk to any human being. What on earth are we supposed to do?
@HMRCcustomers By post (it is a paper-only form). Spent another hour on hold and managed to talk to someone this morning. They said expected wait time is about 5 months, by which time these forms will be out of date. Not sure how it takes 5 months for someone to stamp a form - very Dickensian.
