I’m open sourcing my entire journey to becoming the #1 ranked @fantasy_top_ player in the world.
This is another post I put a lot of effort into, and it’s packed with ways you can become a better Fantasy Top player. If it helps you, please share.🙏
CONVICTION MATTERS MOST, AS THE GAME BECOMES MORE COMPETITIVE.
Burn floors. 🔥
Sell mids. 💵
Play top 50 heroes.▶️
On the surface, that seems straightforward, right?
If there’s a floor card sitting in your collection right now, you’re lighting money on fire, by not lighting it on fire.
BURN🔥
With the introduction of V2 and fragment bonuses when burning commons, it gave us a +EV play that is always available within the game.
Once those floor commons are batch burned, you should either be spinning the wheel or buying Jade packs. Other pack options are – EV right now.
When it comes to floor price, I’ve done a lot of experimenting.
One of those experiments happened right before V2 launch. I wanted to know how many cards would need burned, and what the cost would be, to raise the floor price by 10%.
We ended up burning 210 cards with an average floor price of .00359. About .75 ETH in costs.
The floor was successfully raised to .0039, good for a 9% boost. It ended up costing us .17 ETH in total, as we opened .58 ETH worth of better heroes.
Original post here: https://t.co/am4iKfjQC9
My back-of-the-napkin math shows the current floor price can be raised by 20% (.005 to .006) for burning 400 cards (about 2 ETH). You can play your part by burning those floors right now⌛️
SELL MIDS💵
Many of us players grow into appreciating certain Heroes for emotional reasons. Maybe we had them as a one star and reaped all the rewards one week they had a top 10 performance.
Or we think they’re about to introduce a new product and we’re anticipating a big week (looking at you @PacmanBlur). Or maybe they’ve been suspended and we’ve been holding out hope this entire time.
^^ If you’re wondering why I have a Legendary Pacman, the answer is simple. It was a bribe from the Fantasy Top founders (still appreciated @travisbickle0x, @0xMikado, @0xKipit): https://t.co/pxJd8DagGu
Each Main (week) represents 2% of your chance to compound your portfolio and put heroes to work in your decks for the year.
That is too high of a percentage to wait for a hero to break out.
I define mid-tier heroes as most of the heroes who bounce between 50th and 150th. Their pricing is swingy, and most times they’re overpriced when you look at their True EV (long term expected score) in the @FantasyTopHuds.
i.e.
@heart_ was one of my favorite heroes when they were consistently a top 20 hero. I bought commons and 1 rare. I printed a lot of rewards from playing all Heart copies in Elite farming decks. And then Heart started to slip.
The data within the Fantasy Top hero page for Heart shows they started to slip about 100 days ago.
As we build the algos for the @FantasyTopHuds Trader HUD tool, we’re building it to identify the most mispriced hero (that led to me sweeping Horse, IcoBeast, Frank, and now Rasmr, to become the largest holder in the world, for each of the 4 heroes). Each of these heroes were/are mispriced by > 100%.
But our algos can also be reversed to identify the most overpriced heroes.
OVER 66% of the MID tier heroes are overpriced right now. It’s up to you to find the mispriced ones.
As for Heart, the algo showed a rare version should be priced ~.07. I sold my copy into a bid for .13 and instantly turned around and won another IcoBeast copy for that .13 in a bid. 3 lessons here.
1. Don’t worry about sunk cost fallacy, because compounding week-to-week trumps it (I took a loss on my rare Heart of .1 ETH), but I also consider it a win at selling, since it was overpriced by 100% at current market and IcoBeast will win me rewards in Main 34.
2. Ask yourself out loud if you’d be more excited about Main 34 with a rare Heart or a common IcoBeast. You know the right answer. Now go through all of your mid tier heroes and sell. Upgrade where you can. Again, 2/3s of mid tier heroes are overpriced right now, as players try to time the runups and choose to play the game with high variance.
3. Even if you’re correct and hold and play the right mid tier heroes for a given tournament, there’s a major problem that every AVERAGE Fantasy Top player is forgetting. Inflation Degree.
i.e. Let’s take @dcfgod as an example. He grinds out the points for his players. 3 out of every 5 copies of his card were used in Main 33. He finished top 40%. Players should have been satisfied with those points. But look at those percentages of decks he was in, in each league!
(shoutout to @0xthemolt for this feature in https://t.co/9F79Ut7E4Z)
There are too many copies of dcfgod. His inflation degree of 6 is still too high. If you play him and he doesn’t do well, that sucks. If you play him and he does do well, he does well for too many other players.
Inflation degree and running a hero that does well for a lot of players will create deadlock.
Deadlock is when too many players benefit from a hero doing well—look at how @tier10k decks ran rampant last week as he went from zero to 1000 hero.
In order to become the best Fantasy Player you can, you need to give yourself the chance to build a position in heroes that not everyone else has or plays.
Bad players build decks based on stars requirements. Average players build decks based on gambling. Great players build decks based on Inflation Degree and conviction. Speaking of Inflation Degree and Conviction…
PLAY TOP 50 HEROES▶️
I decide who the top 50 heroes are by using the HUD to find heroes with similar True and Trending EVs. The closer these 2 number are, the more consistent the hero is. That’s who I consider the top 50 heroes to be.
If you don’t have the HUD, go to the Fantasy Top homepage, scroll through the top 50 ranked heroes, and make a list of who you believe has been in the top 50 for the most consecutive weeks. That’s a good starting list. Now go through that list and compare prices. Who is the lowest price? What is their supply and Inflation Degree? You can put that ETH you sold your mid tier heroes for, to work.
MY CONVICTIONS (all discovered as the most mispriced heroes through HUD algos)
After sweeping 12 @TheFlowHorse with a cost basis of .04 each, I’ve now burned 10 of them for 2 rares. I own 2% of total Horse supply (8% of total rare supply).
After sweeping 14 @icobeast with a cost basis of .115 each, I now own 8% of total IcoBeast supply.
After sweeping 14 @frankdegods (10 common, 4 rare), with a cost basis of .037 and .175 each, I’ve burned 5 commons for 1 rare. I own 2% of total Frank supply (3% of total rare supply).
Tonight, I’ve swept hero #4!
That hero is @rasmr_eth! My cost basis is .09. I own 6 copies, good for 3% of total Rasmr supply.
To continue to move up current 10th place (Diamond I) toward 1st place, my decks must finish in the top 17% of the field in @fantasy_top_ Main 34.🌎
The HUD showed me that I needed to build decks with a target of 4,750 points each.
I expect a 100% ITM from my 8 decks in Elite, with 6 of the 8 of them achieving top 17%.
Find your conviction. Play smarter. GL!🤠
