Just out of the cinema and rewatched Star Wars Revenge of the Sith on the big screen for the first time since it came out 20 years ago. It was glorious. Definitely a big screen experience.

At NUMBER 2: historian Joseph Quinn @ww2research is here to rage that IRISH NEUTRALITY WAS RIGHT AND IT WAS STACKED IN FAVOUR OF THE ALLIES! 😤🇮🇪
Joseph challenges the common narrative that Ireland’s neutrality during WWII was a passive or flawed stance. He argues that Ireland’s neutrality was not only strategically sound but also worked in favour of the Allies. 🇬🇧🤝🇮🇪
By maintaining a neutral position, Ireland ensured that it wasn’t dragged into a conflict it could not win, while also providing crucial support to the Allied war effort in ways many overlook, including intelligence and strategic positioning. 🕵️♂️🌍
This episode offers a fresh perspective on Ireland’s role in the war and the often-overlooked complexity of its neutral stance. 🔍

On a short holiday this weekend and taking in The Battle of Britain air show at the Imperial War Museum Duxford and it is so well organised. As someone who read a lot about The Battle of Britain as a child it is exciting to see some of the aircraft from that time still flying.
As I have some free time this afternoon and a free I figured it was a chance to watch A Bridge too Far. It has been far too long since I last watched it.
Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries: "It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones.
There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion. If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the 'medicine closet' and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That's why you should always have a nutrition choice!
Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity."

Great news! 'The Medieval Irish Kings and the English Invasion' is now available to pre-order. 850 years ago, Henry II invaded Ireland - this book explains the reaction of the Irish kings.
Also perfect for impressing friends with obscure knowledge.
