@phalpern This appeared in my feed right below your post. Einstein’s intuitions were incredible in so many respects, but earth does indeed appear to be nearly singular in many ways. https://t.co/9XCmXnminx
Every second, the Sun ejects 1.5 million tons of material into space at hundreds of miles per second, but Earth's magnetic field protects it from the solar wind.
I haven't been active on X for a few years now. But I decided to give it another try today.
The first thing I saw upon logging in was an exchange between two otherwise intelligent, knowledgeable scholars who were resorting to name-calling and ad hominem attacks in a debate over linguistics.
Sigh...

This man is calling me a Nazi because I am secular and write about Judaism. Judaism does not belong to religious Jews and is as much ours as theirs (that is if we even accept Chabad as Judaism, which is debatable)
THE IDEAL LIFE
A Short Film
Larry Caroline came of age in the height of the 60's counterculture milieu, quickly becoming a vocal part of the civil rights and anti-war movements
As a young assistant professor at the University of Texas, he called for a "revolution," which quickly resulted in headlines and losing his career
After moving to Buffalo with his wife, Larry found himself drawn to a different counterculture, this one in the small Chabad House set up by Rabbi Nosson Gurary. Slowly but surely, Larry became lovingly known as 'Reb Yisroel," after his given Jewish name
When they moved to Philadelphia, 'Reb Yisroel' took a position at Beth Jacob Schools where he soon became responsible for the school's shaky finances after the director's untimely passing
Despite these hardships and in opposition to a group of vocal parents, Larry insisted on accepting the children of Russian immigrants who couldn't afford to pay but would now have their first encounter with their heritage
Years later, Larry was asked to reflect on his choices and the consequences of the idealism that led him to make them
Produced for his Shloshim, 18 Kislev 5786

Regulatory workflows are the backbone of drug development. Weave isn't solving a nice-to-have problem—they're eliminating the critical bottleneck between breakthrough science and patient access.
@GroundUpVC is proud to have led the company's pre-seed and been with them from day one. Congratulations to Brandon Rice, @aricaroline and Umut Eser on this milestone. Excited to welcome @USVP_ on board as the Series A lead and extremely bullish on what this means for the future of getting life-changing drugs to patients faster.

Are you using חלל and צמצום interchangeably here? I understood צםצום as happening at multiple scales, more like a map-reduce for dimensionality.
It occurred to me learning שער היחוד והאמונה that the most apt physics “translation” for צמצום might be “decoherence”. Would love your thoughts.
what a privilege it was to know @atulbutte. they say never meet your heroes, but Atul was the exception.
i’ve relentlessly followed his path: first eight years at Brown, now at Boston Children’s. he was there every step of the way. his work shaped how I think about computation and medicine. his heart showed me something even more profound—that brilliance and generosity work best together.
to be mentored by Atul was one of life’s greatest gifts. he was incisive, generous, and unflinchingly honest about what it takes to do work that matters. he held high standards for both science and purpose. conversations with him would fuel curiosity for months.
Atul sought truth. he challenged assumptions. he didn’t chase trends, he set them. he brought urgency. he quietly built the blueprint for the future of computational medicine, and always brought others with him.
he spoke clearly, thought boldly, and listened deeply. supportive, kind, patient, open-armed. Atul led with conviction and joy.
his passing is a profound loss. but the outpouring of love from the lives he touched reminds us just how rare his presence was.
Atul, in our last lunch, you were as passionate as ever about where our field is heading and what it means for patients. that spark and sense of what’s possible is what I’ll carry forward.
Rest in peace, Atul Butte. you changed medicine. and you changed me.
i’ll leave these words you left us—a small part of your vision for the next hundred years of medicine:
Although Atul was always at the cutting edge of science he had the presence and expansive outlook of the intellectual giants of the previous century. His integrative approach to biomedicine has inspired thousands. But first he loved his family and friends with an enthusiasm that brought joy to all of us.
Heartbroken to share my mentor & friend Dr. Atul J. Butte @atulbutte has passed.
He saw potential in me and turned it into opportunity-- for me, and so many others.
We bonded over Star Trek and he was our Captain.
Picard’s parting toast in his honor, final episode: “....five-card stud, nothing wild… and the sky’s the limit.”

There are few in this world who were such forces for good as @atulbutte. His dazzling intellect, relentless curiosity, generosity of spirit, boundless charisma, and infinite optimism left a mark on everything he touched and everyone lucky enough to know him. An enormous loss.
Saddened to hear the loss of our brother @atulbutte. He inspired many to join in his call to realize the full benefits of open health data. He was a dear friend I could call upon to serve as an early adopter, to share feedback on my often crazy ideas :). We love you, bhaiyya💔🙏🏼
🤔 FDA guidances are essentially complex prompts—but written for human regulatory writers.
These documents can span 30-40 pages, packed with intricate decision trees, dense terminology, and complex tables. An expert writer might need to cross-reference 10-20 study reports just to handle one calculation.
At Weave, we’re building a neuro-symbolic framework powered by Llama4 to tackle exactly these high-level reasoning challenges. @AIatMeta's Llama4 helps us parse regulatory documents, generate precise computational graphs, and dynamically build robust drug development ontologies.
👉 Our Co-founder and Chief AI Officer, @Umut1Eser Eser, will be at #LlamaCon2025 tomorrow. Interested in learning more? Connect with him there!
This week’s #WeaveWednesday insight comes from Dani Bergey, Sr. Product Designer — designing clear, human-centered experiences in a world full of complexity:
At Weave, we learned early on that traditional regulatory workflows in drug development are a maze of complexity: multiple teams, writers, review processes, and disconnected software systems. Not only does this create a poor experience, but it leads to wasted time, submission delays, and loads of frustration.
Yes, getting a drug through clinical trials should require meticulous attention and many expert eyes. But the rigor of the process shouldn’t mean complexity for everyone involved.
We stepped back — way back — and distilled this complex workflow into three intuitive spaces: the Data Room, the Dossier, and the Editor. Every user need we’ve uncovered fits nicely into one of these three environments.
Better yet, we’ve strategically infused AI throughout these spaces to eliminate more extraneous complexity while keeping you firmly in control:
☑️ Looking for a specific plot buried in thousands of pages of drug data? Our Deep Search and Explore tools in the Data Room can find it quickly.
☑️ Want to get your first drafts prepared for your team to dive into? Jump into AI templates and generate content from the Dossier.
☑️ Want to incorporate additional source data into your documents?Use advanced Refinement features in the Editor.
Drug development will always be complex — but your workflow shouldn’t be. It’s time for a simpler path forward.
