@Grant_Marek J-school reporting class, my beat was the city of Pacifica (what 1988?). The major issue then - poop on the beach (well, storm drain run off overwhelming the sewer system during rain).
Chaloopa's did not exist then so someone else can write the appropriate haiku.
@LuizaJarovsky 1. we have a technology problem of which AI is a part (technologies projection of an "attention culture" is embedded in this)
2. AI is both being used in creative and innovative ways that is changing disciplines and in general ways that are harming learning - lean into nuance.
@RetroBayArea Grew up there for a while (Therakauf Elementary - anyone remember Mr. Grayson?). Fond memories of the robot birds in Menu Tree, the Candy shop in the middle of Mayfield Mall (and Stevens!).
@dlondonwortel If this is "eternal glory", you need to see the @SFSU Poetry Center digital collection on @diva_sfsu. There is still much digitization work forthcoming.

@XMartinsMusicX I happened upon this performance on YouTube and from this, discovered Songs for Drella, now one of my favorite records ever. Two journeyman musicians mourning an artistic mentor in biographical rendering. Late night TV of a performance so basic it could be in my living room.
@RetroBayArea I grew up in the valley and remember in grade school going on a tour of a 5-1/4" floppy disc factory in Santa Clara - full manufacturing right there (including a vat of toxic green stuff in the back!). Those were the good old days.
@timoreilly The more I engage my organization on AI, the more it becomes clear that AI is a continuation of digital fundamentals, maybe supercharged. A subtle but important observation.
@emollick When asked about implementing AI for automation, we joke that by the time you complete your workflow analysis and uncover the utterly inefficient process(es), you won't need to implement AI, just move forward with simple process improvement.
@gsiemens From someone engaging a campus on GenAI at a regional public, this seems overblown and a simplification of the technology integration at-hand. While definitely a perspective of select individual faculty, we are only at the beginning of a multi-year system change process.
