India’s big failure is air pollution. Left unchecked, this will be the stumbling block for the economy. This can be fixed, countries have done it, and India has enough scientific talent to do it.

Media coverage causes more terrorist attacks:

“Analyzing 61,132 attack days in 201 countries produces evidence that increased New York Times coverage encourages further attacks in the same country. Using natural disasters in the United States as an exogenous variation diminishing media attention, the link appears causal. Our new medicine laureate Katalin Karikó (@kkariko) told us how much it means to be awarded the Nobel Prize after a scientific career that has been full of challenges.

Ten years ago, Karikó was still doing all her experiments by hand but today she has been awarded the medicine prize for her research on mRNA, which led to the development of COVID-19 vaccines.

#BREAKING: The central government has moved to exclude the Chief Justice of India as a member of the selection committee that will choose Chief and other Election Commissioners of India.

The Supreme Court judgement had held that its judgement including the CJI in the selection committee will hold good until the centre brings in a law.

The government has moved to do just that. The Prime minister and his Cabinet Minister will get two votes out of three.

Also, the qualification for being an Election Commissioner is now a person who is or has held a post equivalent to the Secretary to the Government of India.

Not only does this Bill defeat the spirit of the Supreme Court's judgement that highlighted the need for an "independent" election commission, but it also completely surrenders a constitutional body to the party in power.

It reduces the body to just what the Bill considers eligible- a secretary.
