China invented ART to dodge the cost of rail. JB is about to pay rail prices for a bus.
China's own ART (智轨) costs ~ 18-24 million/km , a fifth of a tram. Why so cheap? No dedicated structure. It rides on ordinary road, guided by painted lines on the tarmac. That's the entire selling point of the technology: skip the structure.
JB's e-ART skips nothing. Full elevated viaduct, piers, guideway.
Estimated cost: RM144–233M/km = 6 to 13x what China pays for the same vehicle running at-grade. Elevating ART doesn't just raise the bill. It erases the reason to choose ART over light rail in the first place.
And the capacity you get for that money: 5,000–12,000 pax/hr/direction.
Elevated steel light rail carries 10,000–30,000 — for a similar per-km build cost.
JB priced like rail. Built like rail. Carries like a bus.
Angka tak menipu.
Experts should have a wider perspective.
Shenzhen opened its first metro line in 2004 with a population of 7 million.
Before that? An efficient bus network. Nothing fancy.
JB today has 1.8 million people.
A trunk Komuter line already exists.
So why are we talking LRT?
Here's what experts won't tell you:
LRT is only viable when ridership hits at least 5,000 passengers in the first year per day per km.
JB isn't there yet.
Building LRT before you've built ridership culture is not vision.
It's a procurement opportunity dressed up as urban planning.
The sequence matters:
→ Enhance the bus network first
→ Feed into the existing Komuter spine
→ Build ridership organically
→ Then talk about rail upgrades
Shenzhen didn't open a metro and hope people would come.
They moved people efficiently first , then scaled.
JB has the rail spine to anchor on.
JB has the bus corridors to activate.
What JB doesn't need right now is an LRT nobody will ride and everybody will pay for.
Stop wasting our money
What happens if someone dies before reaching EPF withdrawal age?
Does the money actually go to the government?
I spent the entire morning researching this.
Allow me to explain with 3 scenarios. 🧵

If you haven't updated Composer to 2.9.8 or 2.2.28 (LTS), do so urgently! GitHub will restart the rollout of their new GitHub Actions tokens later today. They've improved secret masking to cover this Composer issue, but you're safer if you update. #composerphp#php#phpc
📌 Rapid KL has activated contingency measures after a train suffered a technical fault, causing delays of up to an hour on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line.
• Trains from Gombak Station will turn back at Kelana Jaya.
• Trains from Putra Heights Station will turn back at Ara Damansara.
• Shuttle trains will be provided between Ara Damansara Station and Kelana Jaya Station.
• Support bus services are also available between Ara Damansara and Kelana Jaya.
@askrapidkl We hope we get an official press release post investigation to know what exactly went wrong and why the recent signal upgrade doesn't seems reduce the number of incidents! We really need to have score kinda (CS score) thing to keep this public transport service in check!
