Let’s evaluate PIA privatisation impartially. Losses (~Rs 550–600bn) and legacy assets stayed with HoldCo — no buyer acquires past losses. Airline sold had ~Rs 30bn net assets, 18 aging aircraft, and ~9,000 staff liabilities. Govt receives ~Rs 55bn upfront (including the 25% it retained) + saves ~Rs 100bn in losses over 4 yrs. If turnaround succeeds, add ~Rs 30bn in taxes. For investors, it’s a Rs 150bn net bet needing ≥25% ROCE. By the numbers, why is this not a good deal?
