1/ A very nice Dendrobium species* from section Diplocaulobium. Found growing in the lower montane forest of New Guinea (c.1600-1900m) this is, individually, a relatively small epiphyte but it can grow into massive specimens. I find the long-neck-vase shaped pseudobulbs are so silky smooth on new growths and quite beautiful! Typical of the section, the flowers last just a portion of one day, blooming in the morning and closing and turning a very bright violet pink in the late afternoon. Flowers also have a very nice scent of vanilla and plants will bloom, depending on size, over a 3-4 day period with most of the flowers opening on the 2nd and 3rd days.

* Notes ~ There seems to be so many variations of the plants and flowers of species from section Diplocaulobium, which make them particularly difficult to identify. I've mostly given up trying except for the most obvious matches.
