To help my students with the Because But and So sentence expansion activity, from #TheWritingRevolution, I created the following template. Download for Free. https://t.co/ZxxcuMwqfr
Congratulations to the incredible team @UFLiteracy !Exceptional gratitude for @HollyLanePhD & @ValContessePhD for their enormous generosity creating UFLI while receiving no monetary benefit. What a gift UFLI has been to Ts & Ss worldwide! W/ gratitude to these #LiteracyLegends
🌟Each day, our students pick a sentence starter, like “Today I worked hard to accomplish…” and reflect on their achievements. This not only boosts their confidence but also helps them set goals for the week ahead!

I teach 9th graders at a public school. I try to incorporate fluency at least once a week in all my classes, and often more than that for my reading intervention courses.
Here's the simple protocol I follow: (not rocket science, but it might be helpful to someone)
I cannot recommend this ‘word sort’ tweak enough! It is remarkable (and worrying) how many children sort the words purely based on their orthography, likely not engaging with the phonological or semantic properties of the words!
Here’s another little alteration to consider 👇
🧠 ✨ Have you used Morpheme Mapper in your classroom?
It is a tool that educators and students can use to explore the breakdown of morphemes within words they are exploring!

Research shows the brain is far more active when we write by hand than when we type. Despite this, local authorities are spending millions on iPads for every pupil—a reckless decision amid declining literacy rates and other urgent pressures. Handwriting matters; we must not abandon it.
Encourage your students to engage with texts before, during, & after reading!

The poor get poorer and the rich get richer.
The longer we wait to intervene and support students the wider the gap gets and the more challenging it will be to overcome.
Reading struggles don't go away with time, they get better with intervention.
Newsflash ⚡⚡⚡The way you think about repeated reading is about to change! One way to do repeated reading is Readers' Theater.

Just put together a code pack of the UFLI scope and sequence and sample words to decode and encode for some of my students (also a video to explain how to use it for families). Here’s the link if you’re interested: https://t.co/OGeh6zHvCA

I’m so thankful to Melissa and Lori to have the chance to share this all important topic! Excited to share a few gold nugget teaching tips for comprehension instruction alongside my favorite literacy partners @KConradiSmith and @EFrackelton! 🙌🏼📚💛💚
