AI is cool and all... but a new paper in @ScienceMagazine kind of figured out the origin of life?
The paper reports the discovery of a simple 45-nucleotide RNA molecule that can perfectly copy itself.
It's surreal to have to defend my interests when they don't align with chasing money. The same folks who bash amateur science as a waste of time also have hobbies and play sports non-professionally with no aspiration for a pro-league career. You CAN do research as a hobby.
Anyone in the soil microbe realm of science willing to have a coffee with me regarding persistence of microbial communities in dirt? Full disclosure it would be for my work at @SenseoryPlants. Happy to pay for your time. Just want some steering as to what lit I should dive into.
Thank you for the continued support of my lab through purchasing my rainbow plasmids! Just paid for primers to isolate a putative blue gene from our #BlueSoup microbe. Excited to get some cloning done with @bielleogy. If anyone wants 🌈🦠, fresh stabs at https://t.co/BzEQUuJ65l
Today marks exactly two years since my very first article was accepted, and how cool for it to have been with @bielleogy at the helm. One of the best parts of Science Twitter is the chance to collaborate on cool projects with amazing people. 💚

If I suddenly won the lottery, I would invest heavily in my lab, rent/buy some proper industrial land nearby, and start a really awesome plant bioengineering center. I'd hire dropouts, working parents, HS grads, and have on da job training for all levels. Bioeconomy starts from 0.
Welp I maxed out my credit card but the trees that would have caved in my home roof and likely shmushed me in my sleep are gone. Gonna sell more plasmids to pay this down. If anyone wants a chromoprotein set check out my shop https://t.co/BzEQUuJ65l
DM me if your order is late!
I’m BEGGING people presenting data at #ASMicrobe (and everywhere, honestly) to consider colorblind individuals when making figures
Many of us can’t tell apart the colors being used
Accessibility matters
(I have no idea if there is a number in this image or not)
Self-assembling patterns in nature occur at all scales, from the formation of galaxies to microscopic snowflakes.
Just one drop of dye in alcohol over a bed of oil gives rise to a sea of evenly spaced droplets. An Inspiring visual for biologists, chemists, and physicists.
Excited to be at #ASMicrobe in Atlanta! I'll be talking today in the Microscale Microbial Ecology session about antagonism as a foraging strategy in microbial communities. Come to B305 at 13.45 to learn more!
@bielleogy The fact that we have not found a viable solution to reducing plastic waste in biological sciences is baffling. Tip washing stations to enable reuse have been a thing for a while now, more awareness is needed to destigmatize tip washing & reuse for less mission-critical work.
We visited @CultivariumFRO!
Cultivarium is a nonprofit building tools to help scientists work with 100+ non-model organisms -- not just E. coli and yeast.
We'll publish an essay about their work for a forthcoming book.
Thanks for the tour, @hhlee and Nili Ostrov!
Soooo, is there a good lab practices or standard template for phenotyping and general scoring for any plant cross? I got a pile of variables but surely folks have gotten together and thinked and thunk a lot about this...no? Any leads would be greatly preesh'd.

@ATinyGreenCell Initially my favourite, it was a no-frills feed, but later learnt that it lacks micronutes (Especially Cal-Mag). I switched to GH FloraNova for my veggie hydroponics now (used on Petunias previously). Any reason you've moved away from Hoagland solution for lab hydroponics?
Look what came in the mail today! My third Solanaceae and the one I'm most excited to try out.
I would love some advice on taking care of this indeterminate variety.
Hey Friends,
I'm currently recruiting for a startup via @deepsciventures focused on buying plant breeders more time using novel florigenesis tech. Hunting for a talented human with experience in Ai/ML in the agricultural sector. Here's the gig. Please RT.

@ATinyGreenCell Any luck with non-fluorescent green? With so many chloroplasts out there, I would imagine it would have been the easiest for evolution to modify into a non-photosynthetic chromoprotein.
