None of the companies I know of that were acquired did free pilots.

It’s the easy way out for both sides - startup doesn’t need to do the hard work of being told no a billion times and the person at the system/payer doesn’t have to say yes or no.

If this were able to be implemented, it would be a pretty strong headwind for certain vertically integrated chassis that have bought up ASCs and other outpatient facilities. There will be vigorous lobbying by these interests, but it needs to happen to foster price/service competition.
