Australia still has a 'luxury car tax' (LCT).
A 33% tariff initially designed to protect our car manufacturers at Holden, Ford, and Toyota… brands that haven’t built a car here since 2017.
For most vehicles, it kicks in at $80,567, and for every dollar over that, the government takes a massive 33%.
That means a $120,000 vehicle ends up costing you an additional $11,829 in LCT.
Last year this tax raised $1.088 billion. By 2028-29, Treasurer @JEChalmers expects to extract $1.30 billion.
Mel Gibson in 1987, absolutely furious on Australian TV about foreign aid:
“They give millions interest-free to Red China, North Vietnam, South Korea to build steel industries… and the Australian taxpayer pays the interest. Then those countries compete directly with our own steel jobs. They tell us to be more productive while they fund our competition overseas.”
He wasn’t mincing words:
“I’m damn hot under the collar. And I care about this nation.”
A 1:03 clip from 38 years ago that sounds like it could have aired yesterday.
The more things change…
No team in Championship history had ever been more than 6 points clear at the top of the table after 17 games...
Frank Lampard's Coventry are now 10 points clear 📈
A country run by banks will
always be in debt
Healthcare run by Big Pharma
will never cure disease
A state run by war
will never know peace
A nation run by media
will never know the truth
