My thoughts on bulk billing & greedy doctors. When Medicare started, we did 6 years of medical school, hung up our shingle & became GPs. Medicare subsidised most of the cost of care so we could privately bill those who could afford it to subsidise the gap for those who couldn’t.
Why does #HepB appears to hit Aboriginal Australians especially hard? In this article for @Nature Outlook, Doherty Epidemiologist @AshQama and Medical Researcher Margaret Littlejohn discuss the factors which contribute to this.

11- We can ask ourselves what kind of future we want. Because what I see in medicine is a sort of climate-change-like tsunami of reckoning coming. And perhaps it's up to the young people to reshape medicine, but I want to just put the question to everyone.

And I wonder just how many patients are falling through the cracks because we don’t have time. And how many of them are not feeling seen or heard, and are struggling, feeling alone, because the systems are built efficiently, and doesn’t give us enough time /19
For the first time @GlobalFund has put #viralhepatitis on the agenda of its Replenishment Conference following an advocacy campaign spearheaded by us and @ICE_HBV https://t.co/ghLCJWNEuv
@ICE_HBV@TheDohertyInst Just a note - whilst our data suggests the current vaccine protects against C4, we didn't have access to clinical records, so we might be missing people who were vaccinated but not tested before their HBV dx. We need a specific study looking at the serotype mismatch to be sure!
Last week, my first (joint) first-author paper on #inhalants was published. You can see my illustrations in all their glory here: https://t.co/aw8u7k43Qr #neuroscience
Super excited to be speaking at #AVHEC19 today about hep B vaccination in the NT. Looking forward to seeing all my other @TheDohertyInst colleagues present too #hbv
